My contract is about to come to an end (I assume in a month or two, as I can upgrade now) and was wondering how easy it is to cancel?

I ask because I took out a month to month Telkom - and when I wanted to close it 3 months later I needed to go to a shop, wait in a long line, use my green book ID (no license) and my requests to cancel are *still* falling on deaf ears.

Hoping with VC to say 'please end it' on the phone!

How is it?

when i canceled my 3G: called client conact number :
gave a fax number, had to send a letter & certified copy of ID.

then i called 3 days later & asked if it was recorded. it was & the billing stopped at the correct time.

others might have experienced diff....

You can call 0821958 free from your Vodacom phone and advise that you want to cancel.

Thanks guys,

Was just worried it'd be a Telkom situation.

haha thanks guys, I don't think I will be porting. I might just cancel the contract and start a new one...

Ah - only been 24 of 36 months ... so it's another year to go still.

He said the system on his side says upgrade due Nov 2011 - but if I log into the portal, it says 'you are eligable for an upgrade - click here for a quote' The two systems don't agree :/

I called the 082 1958 number, entered the number of the contract that I wanted to cancel and then the voice said the call may be recorded and then nothing happened. Each time I tried over the weekend it was the same. Any ideas/help?

It's usually recommended to ask for and use a fax number to submit your cancellation request in writing, and ask for email confirmation though whether you will get it is another matter.

Fortunately once the new consumer act kicks in (in April?) all this becomes a thing of the past as I understand it: providers may not automatically roll over a contract, and must inform you well in advance that it is going to expire. Then if you don't specifically renew, it stops on the due date. Finally!

You will get a SMS informing you of when the line will be deleted.

I dont understand why you guys are having such issues with this. I have cancelled 2 of my personal lines that was redundant with Vodacom. I faxed through my signed letter and ID. The next day the cancellation was loaded for the end of the month.

This is with VSP...I cant speak for the other service providers.
