What software do I need etc etc?

Thanks!

I'm *trying* for my brother's PS3 and he can't get WMP11 - so that's out. The problem is with DNS, IP and all those other computer stuff. This thing is more difficult than the Xbox to get online!

I even tried manually setting everything on the PS3 side, but the issue I get then is 'default router' It seems I NEED a value in their to conitue, and he doesn't have a router (USB wireless dongle direct to PS3). Also got TVersity but it picks up nothing.

The closest I've got when playing with settings, are finding the WLAN and resolving IP, but not DNS.

I would think the PC is then acting as the default gateway so use the PC's IP address it's got assigned to the wireless USB network.

Make dns and default gateway/router the same ip you assigned to the ps3. The internet won't work though. Explain your current network setup. How you connect to the internet etc.

TVersity works well, twonkeymonkey is another option. Also the new Winamp includes a Upnp server that's quite good as well and it's easy to use.

Thanks for the replies.

So, on te PS3 when I select manual settings, it'll be :

IP Address 196.168.0.211
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Router 196.168.0.211
Primary DNS 196.168.0.211
Seconday DNS 196.168.0.211

If I enter this, the end result is IP : Succeeded but Internet failed, as you said. This would help me *if* I could get past this screen, but if the net won't work it seems nothing has. We also ditched the old wireless thing and bought a Netgear Access Point. This is what I've done with this : http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=99353

XCalibre, if you get this going I owe you big time :P

Dolby had a look at your other thread. Settings for ps3 should be IP address: 192.168.0.211
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default router 192.168.0.227
DNS: 192.168.0.227

Are you connecting your ps3 via cable or wireless to the router?

It's my brothers - I'm just trying to help him as he knows less than me ;)

We're doing wireless ... as I said, it sees the AP when I saw sca and with a manual IP it even successfully gives san IP. I also have TVersity running, but nothing worked.

However, I'm not at his place right now so I'll need to try next I'm there :/

Thanks though

Yeh you can try disabling the firewall, also make sure the tversity service is actually running.
