How far does the exchange have to be?

Could anyone please tell me how far away you have to be situated from the exchange in order to get ADSL.

I heard something about a 4km distance..

The closer to the exchange the better. The maximum distance is 4-5km.

im very very far away from the exchange (5km +) and yet i still get speeds faster than what i pay for...

Its not necessarily in a straight line so it might actually be more. Still - nothing to lose by having them come check is there?

I'm more than 6km and support upto 4mb (found that out from them insore), but only ordered 512kb and it works fine.

Moving soon to Florida Park, Roodepoort (next to Ondekkers), anyone maybe that can confirm ADSL speeds for in that area, me please guys

Also know of a few people around here who has 512kb

No idea where my exchange is, but as i understand it, its quite far.

Great, I'm near Snell Road and Ontdekkers, and on there website everything is ok, but at an outlet they went in and told me only 512kb.

If I would get 512kb will the speed be around 64kb/s?

My current exchange is upto 4mb and I have 512kb/s and get between 50-55kb.

Look at http://www.telkom.co.za/athome/products/isdn/home_national_availability.html and find the first three digits of your telephone number

This will point you to the exchange that your line connects to.

I'm connected to 011-614, so Jeppe exchange, but that still doesn't tell me where the actual exchange is. I think I'm about 2km from the exchange, but I could be totally wrong...

I think that is what "Springbokkie" was asking about. Even if I have my exchange it still can be far away.
Spoke to a guy from telkom and he says it is usually next to the Mtn/Vodacom towers. Or Mtn/Vodacom next to the exchange. Same thing

Ok, now that we are on the subject. Mine says (for 021-976) that it is in Durbanville. I live in Durbanville (suburb; Aurora). Does anyone know, perhaps, where the actual exchange is?
