Hi guys,
So a while ago I bought an iPhone 6s 64GB from a gentleman i know..The phone works fine but recently i noticed that if i put my MTN sim card in there it doesn't work, sometimes works for a few minutes then the network is gone.I also tried a telkom sim and still no network.First thing that came to my mind is that the phone might be blacklisted so i called Vodacom to check as thats were the phone was bought and i have the receipt.
The guy i talk to tells me the phone is clean and no blacklist on it is recorded but the reason I can't use any other network is because the phone was bought on contract and iPhones from Vodacom only work on their network. Now i know this is not true as i have used many phones from Vodacom on different networks without any issues,i also tried explaining to him that all iphones in SA should be factory unlocked but he was adamant that's the reason I'm not able to use any other sim.
Anyone else has seen this, and how far true is it?

"far true" o_O

It is probably network locked, and now the "it's illegal to network lock phones in SA" argument will commence in 3...2...1...

It has been a long time since I've heard of "Network Locked" phones. Worked in the industry 1994-2001 back then networked locked phones were the norm!

I could be wrong but, you have to call mtn and check if it's stolen/blacklisted.

that is how pointless blacklisting a phone is, it's only blacklisted on that particular network.

I did call MTN and they say its clean on their side.I thought only the network that sold the phone can blacklist it.

It could be that the phone just does not support MTN's spectrum. Try using a Cell C sim since Cell C roams on Vodacom's network.

Actually there NO law that states phones cannot be network locked. The policy or law or whatever they call it has never been finalized.

Phone might need MTN carrier update. Plug in to iTunes with Internet access, it will update automatically.
