Yo, I'll tell you how fit I am, How really fit I am, really am
So tell me how fit you are, how really fit you are, really are
I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha)
I wanna really, really, really wanna workout with you
If you wanna be my trainer, you gotta get with my friends
(Gotta get with my friends)
Make it last forever, training never ends
If you wanna be my trainer, you have got to give
Taking is too easy, but that's the way it is

I'm very unfit at the moment.

I bought a new stationary exercise on Friday. Its pulse meter measures my pulse at 75!!! when I start. I'm not doubting its accuracy. I'm just pointing outhow unift I am. In high school (16 years ago) my heart rate was in the fourties. And my recovery to a low rate was very quick.

But then I weighed 70kg. Now I weigh 85kg. :( ...

Point is, I have a new exercise bike and I intend to use it. When summer comes I want to have dropped 10kg.

Watch this space.

It is like you are describing me - left the army (20-something years ago) at 70kg now very close to 90. Also got a bike at home for this same purpose. I'll confirm my weight at home and then begin the task of fitting back into my speedo by summer.

I don't see much wrong with 75bpm either, i've always felt using your resting HR as a measure of fitness was a little misleading.

If you want to really test your fitness , get it up to 160bpm and see how long it takes to get back down to say 100bpm . That is how you measure fitness ;) . I'm sure there is an exact scientific way to do this, but that is how i noticed my fitness, when i am fit my heart rate drops to resting very quickly (so i can push myself much sooner and for longer)

I mean isn't it ultimately about how fast you can recover? If you run a marathon, your cardio is ultimately about that ability to keep your heart rate below that threshold where everything just turns to acid, and well if you're unfit you usually get to that heart rate much faster and you usually can't get out of it fast either.

Best reply so far.

I just took my pulse using a pulse oximeter and I have a RHR of 60 atm (Sometimes it is in the mid 40's). I am a fat bastard (lost 20kgs over the past 18months though). Granted, my work requires me to climb stairs everyday, all day but I am obese according to my BMI.

Just measured my resting heart rate, and it is 64. I am 49 years old and I still cycle to work every day. Yes, even this morning when it was -2 degrees C!

Respect to you! I have been trying to convince myself to get on a bike for the past month ...

My resting heart rate is around 74 - I am 21... I suppose that it pretty bad?

i have a rower at home. AWESOME exercise! just had a leg in a cast for three months and now it is time to lose the 5kg i put on and get to the point where i can row hard for 30 mins again! currently i am dead after five!

Before I got pregnant, I used to run 3 or 4 x per week and gym inbetween.

During pregnancy, I exercised every second day at the gym and was very fit.

Since giving birth, I barely go to the gym (when is there ever time for me ??) and it has been a year now.

I feel like I can cry at the way things have gone from good to bad.

Squash guys. Squash is the key to getting fit. I've always been a lightweight - only weigh around 65. I used to have quite bad asthma (could only play 1 game of squash and couldn't breath), but since playing squash regularly for a few years, I now almost never need an asthma inhaler ever - only get a bit of asthma if I'm sick with something that affects my lungs (like flu). Anyway - so while I'm pretty fit - I definitely could stand to gain some muscle! Oh year - my heart rate is around 54 :)

I've given up on fitness.

so I'm donating my body to science fiction.

With my coordination, you better hope by "squash" you mean "sit on thin guys"...:(

Find a boxing gym, get a good trainer and you'r all set. Nothing has changed my life more than boxing. After 2 weeks I quit smoking, after 2 months I quit drinking, Iv dropped 13kg and competing in amateur competition.

Life is great

then again I don't have family responsibilities which eats away at training time. Although I spend an hour in the kitchen preparing meals every night.

40 is the heart rate of a super fit athlete. For the normal person if that is your heart rate I would suggest seeing a doctor.

I wanna lose 10kgs, not the will to live :)
