How good is this computer?

I love the vishera and FX cpu they perform better than my I5 and they are 4.1 Ghz so fck Intel

lol, a 2 core HT i3-6100 performs better than a fx-6300. the lga 1151 socket will also give you a much easier & better upgrade path vs the am3(+)

But "muh cores"

This is my old PC so it's definitely an upgrade
MB: Gigabyte P55A-UD3 rev 2
Processor: 4-Core I5 2.8GHz (Not sure the processor name)
GPU: Club 3D AMD Radeon HD 5830 1GB GDDR5(I think)
RAM: 8GB HyperX Fury 1866Mhz
Storage: 3TB (1TB + 2TB) WD drives
This PC could only run battlefield 4 on medium

Not because of that, I've owned a Asus Z77 mobo that got hit by lightning, a friend had a unopened MSI equivalent which I bought and it's downright horrible.

In my experience I've found that MSI is the better brand in terms of cooling and design
I love the way MSI makes their products look
But in the end there's no real difference for me

I also had a bad stint with MSI about 12 to 15 years ago. Sold hardware on the side and that one year I had a shait load of MSI come backs. Till today I struggle to get myself to buy their products again. But apparently they've upped their game a lot.

Worth the premium for a few seconds?

Also I'm not sure what the test environment is like
If it's dedicated OS dedicated game drives or OS + Game.

My personal experience is that I load faster than everyone else in CSGO, ArmA3, Men of War AS2, pretty much everything, bar bloat games.

Friends rig:
i5 3700k @ 4.5
16GB
980ti
250GB SSD (i'll ask what brands)

My rig:
i7 4790 @ 4.0
16GB
7870
3TB WD30EZRX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136874

Most people run their games off an HDD anyway but keep their boot drives an SSD which makes an immense difference in just the responsiveness of the computer overall.

For actual benchmarks of SSD vs HDD for gaming here is a video of a few games:

I did the math quick and the SSD is overall 2.11 times faster than the HDD, however depending on the game that number can be as high as 5 times. If you have the money it's definitely at least worth putting the games with poor loading times on an SSD.

It's not that I bought an SSD for performance or anything, it was because it was on sale, if not I'd have gone for HDD
So in the end it doesn't matter to me, the SSD will only have my OS and everyday games that I play

Good choice though as it really does make a MASSIVE (as MyBB would say) difference for the OS.

Intel ain't got **** on my AMD FX 9 series when it comes to real world programs.

IE not games.

I still think a top of the line i3 is more than good enough for games.

Anything else and Intel will buckle to keep up.

For my production and rendering the only Intel that keeps up is the workstation with the i7-5930K which is on par with how the amd runs the same software.

I don't play games so can't comment there.

That changes things, if you got that nice Makro deal then you scored. I was going to get them and they ran out. Can't justify paying full price for the performance increase I've seen.

Noah you really believe eveything is fine with your friend's rig if his faster computer is slower than yours? OK then.

No it's a fine example of how having a sub par CPU can **** your entire system up no matter what you have.

Never ever go cheap on the CPU.

Which cpu and software do you use thor?

The software is a niche developed one if that makes sense, it's for a pharmaceutical company, Its chemical similarity testing. Suppose you have a database of a few hundred existing drugs, stored as molecular geometries (electron density patterns). Someone comes up with a new potential drug and wants to know how close the geometry is to anything in the database, you have to translate and rotate the molecule in question (six degrees of freedom) to see what the maximum amount of overlap is possible with a known drug.

Also memory intensive.

I assume due to the amount of cores if the AMD FX-9590 it handles it better.

Since the results take a lot less time on that CPU than it does on the i7-5930K
