How inflation will kill your 2016 salary increase

According to the ECA International Salary Trends Survey, the average salary increase in South Africa in 2016 is among the 20 highest in the world - but thanks to inflation, this doesn't mean much.

I have to agree.

I assume most of the contents were compiled before 9 December, when the SA economy was turned on it's head. Food inflation cannot be any less than 15% with the huge maize imports required.
That's just the start. Unemployment will rocket and you actually have to be earning a salary for inflation to "kill your 2016 salary increase".

If you're able to earn that much ebucks, then you already don't have a problem.

In reality, inflation in my world has been double digit stuff. Food is definitely upwards of 9%. Education 11% this year. Electricity, which also has a knock effect to most other purchases, was upwards of 10%. The currency devaluation about 33% this year and this obliterates anything imported. So if I were bloody fortunate to achieve 5 to 6 percent, I went backwards by at least 7 to 10 percentage points.

I think Kosmik was referring to the fact that he/she does not get a salary increase rather than that everything else gets increased.
