How is Neotel post-Seacom?

Havent noticed any differences. Been doing speedtests all day and its still pretty much the same. I dont think they ISP's have switched to seacom yet. might take a few days/weeks/months.
 
its a no brainer that people would expect a difference when its been said many times that you will not automatically be put onto Seacom once it goes live. The only time you will likely be put onto seacom, is because Sat3 is down, or your ISP provides dedicated bandwidth on Seacom!
 
honestly.. I actually forgot that the seacom line has gone live...
No great shakes from Neotel.
The "dead" time has stopped tho, and I am pretty much getting decent speed most of the time. Uplload speed it still painfull, but its ok, keeping in mind that I have downloaded about 140 gigs this month so far...
Might have been more except I had a really busy week in the middle there that I didn't have time to cue any downloads....

Edit - I was looking at the wrong months stats.... Sorry. I have done about 80 this month

Why on earth would you lot think that we'd see an immediate change? These things always take time!
 
219gigs last month after my device was replaced after my sister droppedit. Seems it was faulty to start with. Averaging 110KB/S and at time up to 160KB/S.. Cant complain anymore as R999 is cheap.
 
I saw a 1000000x improvement.

Before = my area coverage = 0.
After = my area coverage = 0.

If anything, mine has gotten worse. I now even get disconnects, which I never really got before. It's like being on a 56k modem on a bad telephone line, with random spikes to something better.

Has enough time now passed for a reasonable assessment of pre vs. post Seacom?

My real question is: I am on a iburst's 1gb account that I know will give me ~5kb/s fairly consistently for the month, for R199. Based on the complaints I've been reading, it would've seemed better value to get 2x iburst accounts (10kb/s) than a Neotel Prime Unlimited @ R999 that has inconsistent performance. Would that be a fair comment? Or is it really worth the R999?
 
even less speed, a ton of disconnects ........... yeah, looks like Seacom made a huge difference :rolleyes:

Perhaps i'm one of the lucky ones, perhaps there are more like me... but since those disgruntled posts many months back (i made a few as well), my Neotel Prime uncapped account has been fantastic. I'm sure those still experiencing problems will jump in and say otherwise, but for me it's been great.

Caveat: I forgot to mention... don't get ur hopes up for upload speeds. I think those always suck on the technology that Prime uses. I route my SMTP traffic via ADSL:P From what i've seem the flex upload speeds are a lot better.

I'm hoping Neotel WiMax will come out uncapped.

I too hope they come out with a flex uncapped package - but i dont think they will for 1 reason - neoflex is wireless, and as such the device can connect many people to an uncapped source. I think neotel is just going to lose alot of money on a flex uncapped product!
 
when u have a monopoly u don't need to provide a good service..

seacom is Neotel's cash cow

It's easy enough to connect Prime to a wireless router...

Will we be seeing any new Seacom products or reduced pricing on existing packages?

The benefits of Seacom seem to be filtering through in the ADSL market.

This close to the "rush" period, i doubt anyone to see a price cut implemented now, even the mobile networks have exteneded their interconnect rates until march, slowly creeping further and further away form initial Feb.

As for the seacom product range, there are always pipelines full, they tend though to keep them secret for as long as possible before leaks are made.
If i get any sneek peaks, i'll post new prod thread.
 
At the Seacom show, in Sandton, it was clear that we (the clients) will not see any advantages of the Seacom line. The bandwidth will be diluted and sold off to other ISPs.

Like I asked before... Do you feel safer now that the new police chief is getting a R5 000 000 house to stay in? As a salary worker you don't get more money if your boss wins the jackpot at The Lost City. I don't think NoTel is under any obligation to share this new found high speed pipe with any of their customers.

But, just maybe, the erratic connections and low download speeds might improve to get to the promised specs.

don't want to rock the boat, but obvious startegies of any business is as follows
If the tech becomes available, it is slowly and quietly introduced, so as not to overflow network usage.

Think about it this way, if a speed is made available, we immediately want it and use it. So if a faster speed is introduced, without maximizing current usage and ensuring current technology is operationally working, why would we they want to create hype before initially first correcting current processes.

Lets watch this space develop over the next few months and then consider re-evaluating it.
