Hi everyone
I am considering registering for paypal so I can buy idm (internet download manager) how is paypal service? how are the fees? I saw FNB have partnered with them and charging 1.5% while paypal charge 2.4% per transaction...so since idm is 24.99USD i.e R213.91 according to today (18/12/12) exchange rate,so in these case does it mean paypal will charge me USD 0.59cents which is R5.13 and FNB charge me further 1.5% which is R3.21 total transaction in SA will be R222.25.

For those who are using the service to buy programs is my calculation correct?

Thank you.

Excellent. When you make the purchase it'll be in Dollars but you'll see on the page just how much you'll be paying in ZAR. No dig intended but I'm astonished when I meet people who haven't opened a Paypal account yet.

Wow thanx, excellent just do it for me,thanx, about being new not all people are on the same level ;-)

Yeah I only use Paypal or Google Checkout.

Been shafted by others so many times now it's not even funny.

I have used Paypal for a number of years now, without any issues. I don't have an FNB account, so can't comment on those charges.

PayPal only charges a transaction fee if you're the seller, not the buyer. The transaction fee you mentioned is covered by the recipient.

FYI, the dollar to rand exchange rate will be slightly higher than what is mentioned in exchange rate websites. Because they usually publish the exchange rate of how much the bank buy's it for, and not how much they sell it.

Only when you extract funds from PayPal does the "transaction fee" apply, but that's not as much (and I have done R15k at a time) even though it's a bit of a pain having to pay PayPal for the sale (their transaction fee) and then another one to get the money into your FNB account.

Don't use FNB's "load" service, it's a waste, you should be clever enough that you have a cheque card (at least), so just link your FNB cheque card to the PayPal account and you can earn ebucks for the transaction as you go on.
