How is WiMax going to effect iBurst and what are the diff?

Wait till its running, then compare. Nobody knows how much the service will cost. Apparently it will be faster, but again, how much will it cost.

Unless someone has a crystal ball hidden away, or affiliated with the beast or whoever has Wifi/Wimax and knows what's what - then there ya have it :)

And yes, it if its faster and the same price or cheaper than Ibust - then yes... Bye Bye Iburst... or more to the point - The Broadband War continues!...

There is a lot of talk about WiMax in general lately, but comparing it to iBurst is harder, not many papers or discussions about that. Actually one very nice one but you have to pay.. a lot.. 3000 Euros apparently :(

Thats all technical though, and there is a lot more to read about just WiMax or iBurst, but the impact in SA, we will have to wait and see. The technology in use hardly matters any more for us, its just what kind of bandwidth prices, speeds and service levels the ISP is going to provide with the service. If you look at the article about Telkoms WiMAx trials starting today you will see that they are being trialled with 512kb speeds and on 2Gb accounts. Not a good sign, iBurst was trialled two years ago with full 1mb and uncapped accounts. I'm not sure what this says about their network though, I guess they are just being greedy with their bandwidth again.
