How long does it take for the DSL light to stop flashing?

So due to storm damages we had to end up replacing the modem with a D-Link AC1200 router, and it's been working remarkably well over the past few weeks.

However in the last day or so, the DSL light takes a good few minutes to establish, as in the light that needs to stop flashing before the internet indicator turns on. In the past it was around a minute, which was normal. Now it takes almost 3 minutes.

Once it actually establishes, all is normal. No disconnects or even slowdowns. Though I am a bit worried this might be an ongoing issue and might take even longer in the future. I have also tried with/without a filter, same deal. I'm on on a Telkom uncapped ADSL connection.

Is this a norm? How long does it usually take for you guys on your end to to establish a proper connection?

It depends on how long it takes to get authentication and how long synch up takes. When it is connected what do your line stats look like. Methinks your line is damaged, but functional.
I had that before and had to log a fault to resolve it.

Well, it's a 10mbps line but after they repaired it half a month back the speedtest only goes up to around 5. I thought this was weird and called Telkom on that day, but they just said that it's normal for our area (weird enough it worked faster before).

But anyway, the speed even after connection is unchanged, and I can download files without interruption.

As far as connection goes, on the of repair the DSL would take about a minute to establish a connection. DSL would flash, die maybe once or twice and then establish again. This was kind of the same on our old modem as well so I didn't think much on it. Then after a few weeks, yesterday, it's been doing it much longer and it's concerning.

Your line is stuffed... report it.
The speed drop is clear indication of it.

Shoddy repair work. Telkom did not find all the points where presumably the lightning storm caused damage. Based on their track record of late, you will never get back full functionality until somehow, you can get Telkom to undertake a full circuit evaluation.
It is not the modem. The suggestion to review the line stats etc is the best way to try and see what is going on and to try and convince Telkom to undertake a more thorough line repair.

Thanks for the confirmation. Will definitely log a fault on their site.

When they did the repair job, it took a month after the fault was logged for them to actually come out and repair it, so I'm a little worried what will happen in the time between if they ever decide to care about us paying customers.

But anyway, I appreciate the help all :)

Oh in cases like this with the line being stuffed, do I have to worry about it disconnecting or dying or anything like that or can I at least use it until they resolve the issue?
