Assigning a port on the exchange is a 10-minute procedure, a bunch of UNIX-like commands. It's the red-tape from the billing department and elsewhere that causes the hold-up + laziness of exchange staff.

Just spoke to the National Provisioning Help Desk and asked for an update on my order - Wish i had a recording of that.

After i have my Order Number i was told 'I see there is a port project pending'. This i agree with. I asked him how i could try and get this port faster, that is when the fun started.

The agent started explaining to me what a port was, in his words 'The port is the network that that allows you to use the digital service, I know you have waited a long time but i am afraid you will still wait a long time, especialy if there are no ports available' (this took about 3 minutes with all the umm's and ahhhh's). I think this guy tried to get a port himself.

I aked for a number to whom i can escilate this, 'Sorry sir, they will just tell you the same thing''.

Why? Why? Why?

Eish! I feel your pain.... I applied for my Adsl line on feb 13 2006, waited for the port project to be completed at the end of june. Now they say they have assigned my port, have tested my line and all that needs to be done is to activate it. they still can't give me a date as to when it will be activated.

i love you telkom...

and escalating your issue, well... *sigh* :(
mines been escalated to mars and back!
