Hi everyone, I just want to know how long could it take to test and swap out a new ATI 4890 for a customer? I have been waiting for 7 straight weeks now (8 weeks if you count the first time I took it back for "inspection") and I'm pretty sure 115c temperature isn't normal for a few seconds of gaming...

Basically had the card for a week before taking it back the first time.

Cheers,
Roobir

You have been waiting for 7 weeks too long already. If they have stock on hand, then 2 days max.

How many times have you called them?

Many times, always a "Phone again next week" or "I'll phone you back with information". Never phones back though :'(

Don't know if this is the problem, but I know some of these graphic cards are out of stock everywhere and are only to receive stock in SA in February.
Saying that, if that is the problem, they should have informed you, if that was the case.

I would never accept 7 weeks, not even over Christmas season.
Speak to a manager or somebody else. Go down there and demand to see your old card.

I had a similar problem about 2 years ago. I ordered a replacement keyboard for a laptop. It had to be imported from Japan and was given a time frame of 3 weeks. It dragged on for 5 weeks with all types of excuses, customs, etc.

Eventually I was told it would be there the one afternoon. Send courier from Kirkwood to PE. No keyboard. Supplier told me something went wrong with the courier, but I can collect the following morning.
I phoned the following morning early. Still not there but will be at 10:00. Phone 10:00, yes keyboard is there. I can collect. All these conversations with the same technician.
I send the courier and guess what, no keyboard. He lied! Not an error - just plained lied.
I reported him to the manager. He told the manager he felt under pressure to help me and that is why he eventually said it was there and he hoped it would arrive before my courier came. Got the keyboard the following day. Go check on your card, maybe it is missing.
Maybe they need to send it elsewhere to be tested, but find out.

Tell them they either swap it out or give your money back, if there is no stock of the card their supplier should give them a credit note for the item and it you should be given the choice of waiting or refund.

Actually this is a very valid point. Everything everywhere is currently out-of-stock or arriving. I guess this Christmas season and the whole current economic situation is seeing shipments coming in quite late this year. I have requested several items from a few suppliers and there's alot not in stock. 1TB Western Digital drives for example are nowhere to be seen. i3/i5 is still coming. Even Axiz who sent out there flyer in the past week or so just don't have the items they've put on promotion. Video cards too, things are just no here.

Just about everything I have put a request in has an ETA of 1st or 2nd week of February. We'll just have to wait for the stock levels to pick up.

I would pass this info on to your client. There's nothing we or most distributors can do about it.

just plained lied

I received 1 of those little notice cards from the local post office for a package . . . when i got there i was simply told that the package has not arrived yet. probably the same scenario lol...

Well, I must say our Post Office here in Kirkwood is nogal potent.
I almost never receive a card or slip indicating that there is a package for me, but the bell would ring and there is my packet, delivered by bicycle.
