How many e-tags has Sanral really sold?

Lies, damn lies and statistics.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry at those stats though. These okes are going to attempt to run a multi billion system...but can't manage to get a simple stat right. :wtf:

IIRC at one stage it was inadvertently revealed that for e-tolling to be implementable they will need at least 2 million registered tag holders so they are at less than a quarter of the uptake needed to functional

Well maybe they'll mysteriously find the other 1.3 million in the next month or too...

Do you recall where that 2m info is from? That sounds like a pretty juicy piece of info that.

When it does get implemented it would be interesting to find out if bookings for hospitality establishments go down.

What it really points to is Vusi Mona being a complete moron by not being able to analyse a sales number correctly; playing an April Fool's joke; or accidentally stating the real number.

Doesn't matter which way you look at it, this ex-head of the government propaganda machine is a complete moron...

It came up with one of the early feasibility studies. It wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't form part of the case on the cabinet decision - which unfortunately can't really be challenged in court because of PAJA and a bizarre adherence to a bizarre application of an executive discretion doctrine which the current Chief Justice is a proponent of.

Anyone noticed what SANRAL tend to say about the amount of eTags. That don't state how many is sold, they state how many is in circulation. Circulation is a bit wider as it can be interpreted as only how many eTags are in shops, not how many are sold.

Just saying.

...don't state how many is sold, they state how many is in circulation....

That might be where the big jump to 600k came from i.e. switching from actual sales to e-tags in circulation. Hopefully 500k of those are still in the shops....

Or SANRAL could just be lying flat out about the numbers. You know, t 'encourage' more motorists to get them.. "Since everyone else is getting them" - weak, yes. But I don't put it past them. [SANRAL]

If anyone have some time. There is a why of estimating to punt of people that have etags. Go to a large shopping mall in Gauteng. Count the vehicles and the amount of etags on the vehicles. It should be a good sample of the normal citizen (middle class).

Determine the percentage of vehicles of etags and times it with the amount of vehicles in Gauteng

Any volunteers?

So somewhere between December 2012 and April 2013, 350 000 people gave back their tags? And then bought new ones before June?

I smell bull****.

No. Either Vusi Mona mistakenly gave out the correct info, or he doesn't know how to read a sales report. Occam's Razor...

I personally recon SANRAL will get a compliance rate of around 75 to 80%.

The middle class is already 'vuis voos' (battle tired) and do not still have the will to fight e-tolls. Like sheep most will just do it the South African way i.e. comply.

I will however try and make up for that each month I visit Gauteng without any e-tag...

I don't agree. People just don't have spare disposable money.

People will comply.... loads of hot air at the moment... but come december, the Vaalies will all be etagged!

Kind of like when the ANC win the elections again.... and all the educated folk standing around the braai pondering why the masses still voted for them.....
