I see a lot of posts from people compaining that the costs for the 3G1 tariff are too high etc etc etc.
My question is, how many complainers are using laptops, and how many desktops.
Right now, the 3G1 product is only useful if you have a laptop, as that is what the card that come with it plugs into. Unless of course, you have a 3G blue tooth enabled phone to use as a 3G modem for your desktop, in which case I think you will struggle to appreciate 3G speeds anyway since the transfer rate across blue tooth is not exactly swift (in my experience)

Really, I would like to know, as a percentage, how many of the people complaining about the price would actually be able to make use of the service even if it were free? I cannot imagine anyone using a GIG downloading to just their phone, so a computer must feature in the equation somewhere.

Perhaps people are just complaining because they like to.

I have a laptop and 2 desktops, and have an ISDN line with dialup. My desktops and laptop are confiured for ISDN dialup but the costs per month are to high (+- R1 400) as I use it a lot during the day. 3G lets me connect at home, work and when I am out of the office. It's size is also a plus for me.

but once you hit the 1gb mark you pay through your teeth. Why not go for adsl at home? Id take adsl over 3G anyday

If you can get ADSL. I've been waiting for ever for ADSL in my area. Up to now, I've used ISDN with callmore or infinity or whatever talkom calls it these days.

My server brings the line up every night at 7 and keep it up till 7 the next morning. And of course the whole weekend. All for R7 a pop.

128Kb/s sustained, no capping, no port shaping, etc. I download MUCH more than 3Gb this way, every month.

Use 3G for daytime access plus mobility and schedule all downloads over ISDN after hours. Works for me.

I use internet & mail for business so its daytime use. So far i have used 200mb of my 1gb cap and I need to be mobile.

I am using 3G on my desktop through a PCI to PCMCIA adapter card. I'm relatively happy about it.

Signal at home on the floor (where the PC stands) is not great at all. On the table, it's quite better.

I'm looking forward to the aerials that Vodacom is promising!

I am using the Level One adapter. I'm quite happy with it and can't say that I have had trouble that is specifically the adapter's fault.

I have had the 3G card hang on me a few times (both lights flashes alternatively), but cannot say for sure that it is the adapter's fault.
