There is no law against laser jammers in SA
Maybe I wasn't clear on this.
Speeding = R500 fine
Laser jammer = Court + bail + car impounded

The speedtrap pulses a laser beam and measures the time that the signal of each pulse takes to return. From each pulse they get one distance measurement. From the distance measurements the device works out the speed.
If the pulse returns too fast or the speed difference between say pulses 1-2 and 2-3 is too great then it discards the reading. i.e. gets jammed.
No permanent damage/recalib.

I'm sure the chances of getting caught are slim and many people use them on the road...but is this really an area where one wants to be on the bleeding edge?dhez said:i guess it depends where in sa u r using it, if u sing it in jhb the usually trap on bridges etc, so they dont run onto the road to stop you
Yeah. The car impounding part is a worst-case scenario though.mxit_fan said:EISH...scary
How do we know they get a second reading?
I use a laser detector with Veil stealth coating. It doesn't jam the signal, but it requires them to take a second reading, by which time the detector would have already warned me when they tried zapping me the first time.
They claim that the coating gives you up to 10 seconds of additional reaction time, giving you enough time to slow down. I'm not sure of that claim because I've never needed more than 5.
And this isn't defeating the ends of justice because you're not interfering with their equipment. They usually get a reading on their 2nd attempt anyway.
