I am thinking of getting Capped ADSL as the speed is sort of guaranteed and unshaped/throttled.

Now I’m wondering how much data would be needed? Any advice or figuers on how much data a family of 5 wil use for regular smartphone usage (updates, social media etc) and streaming or downloading of movies (for example Netflix) streaming or downloading of movies or series won’t be extremely high, but will still be there.

Any advice would be great!

I can't imagine you'll find two folk who would have the same answer.

Three of us, streaming constantly basically... Netflix, news and sport. Downloading movies and series that aren't available to stream. Updates and whatever else... Media player, three machines, two tablets and three phones, and we run between 1,2 and 1,4Tb a month.

We might not be the best example 'tho, and I'm not sure you'll really know what your usage is going to be like until you've spent a month or so on the account. My best suggestion is to pick an ISP that offers month-to-month subs... That way, you can migrate your package up or down if you need to.

I have a gaming system and MANY devices and my wife and I stream all the time. We don’t use more than 200GB in a month

That needs a number and how you use it.
Using midnight cap, we hit ~600GB last month using Vox 300GB.

200 gb. Me and my wife. 1 PC, 1 TV, 2 phones and 2 tablets. Almost 400gb last month, might be because of all the free time to watch stuff during the holidays. Consider your line speed. 8mbps allows us to watch HD stuff.

Last month we used 400gb during the day and 100gb during the off peak period. Family of four with a houseguest.

You're not gaming or using anything latency dependent so why capped data?

As a single person I used just over 180GB in December on telkom home unlimited streaming, gaming & downloading.

Telkoms home unlimited is very good value for money, with your family size I would say look at a minimum of the 10Mb/s package but ideally 20Mb/s

Agree.. We are 4, and we have pc, phones, streaming from media player and phones, social media and downloads. We get through about 600 to 800 gigs a month

Two family members. 300Gb per month roughly, mainly online gaming and streaming netflix. And cellphone data

1.6TB just 1 person (me. lol) Streaming & downloading in December...

data a family of 5

How old are the kids?

I never noticed any slowdown on my Telkom uncapped 10Mbps line- I'd just get that (or faster if concurrent streaming is required) to avoid cap concerns.

Crap thing to have to worry about/police with kids.
