Why would you tip a petrol attendant? He's paid to be there, a waiter on the other hand is more then likely living off of commission and tips. The "basic" salary that's supposed to be paid to waiters still doesn't get paid to them as most restaurants find loopholes.
Back on OT I wouldn't tip them, if the delivery is offered by the place I'm ordering from and it was free then yes, but those two charge me quite a lot for the luxury of delivering my food.
This ^^

"just minutes from my house"...why don't you go get it yourself then, you lazy bastard.

Haha I do every time because like I said they don't deliver in my area. And besides everyone in this thread are lazy bastards if they're using mr d etc. Everyone lives just minutes away from wherever they're ordering from lol.

Mr D is a terrible name btw. Sounds very porny

Considering that it would cost me 40 minutes and about R40 in petrol/wear n tear to go to any fast food place nearby, 10%.

Uber and MR D charge for the delivery and then they charge the restaurant like 30% commission on the order. They make more than enough to pay these guys a decent wage.
Tipping is passing the cost of staff on to the consumer and then the companies the people work for stick the money in their pockets.
Same with petrol stations, the people i know that own petrol stations are coining it, they can afford to pay the guys a decent wage. So they should not let their staff rely on tips.

While that's absolutely true, the chances are that you won't fix the system by not tipping.

Tipping is a stupid system, people should be paid for their work by their employer and I consider Uber and Mr Delivery employers.

That said, if a delivery is done properly I do tip R10.

R10-R15. That's on a bill for 1 or 2 people.

Because of where I stay, there are Uber bikes everywhere! But I've often seen these guys pushing their bikes around because they've run out of fuel. They really do struggle to get by, wearing incorrectly sized helmets and unknowingly risking their lives daily.

Yes, Uber inflates prices, but the drivers seems hardly any of that. I try to tip at least R10 for the convenience and cost of petrol these days.

If it's raining, I tip more. If I order for more people, I aim around 20% of the bill.

As far as I'm concerned, if you don't tip the guy that rides 30 minutes in the rain to go and collect your food and deliver it to your door whilst you sit watching TV with the heater on, you're lazy and ignorant.

I tip on avg 15% (or R35 which ever is more) but most of these deliveries are from places i can see around the corner so they do score.. when places are further i prefer driving myself as those delivery drivers break traffic laws and i'd rather not pay someone to break the law. So i go fetch when its further than 1.5-2km.. usually we order when there is traffic i.e. its faster to get via delivery than fetch.

PS. I always tip generously though so restaurant waiters love their 20-25% when we have a night out.. guess its because i did the whole delivery thing when i graduated and couldnt find work for over a year in cpt.

Last week I ordered 4 bottles of wine from Checkers Liquor. I tipped the delivery guy before delivery using the app. 1 bottle arrived broken, delivery guy said that he broke it. Called the number, agent stated that she cannot help me, but that I must send an email to [email protected], with photographs. I did so, but email bounced "552 message size limit". Reduced the size of the photos, sent again, bounced again. Reduced further, until no bounces. During the course of 23 - 29 July I followed up with email, no response. More email, no response. Called them, message said that they were having telephone problems. Next day, I eventually got through to a cheeky agent who told me to resend the email, did so, still no response. Received delivery receipts. Called again, same story. Requested escalation, still waiting...

Long and short: If you use Mr D, don't expect refunds when goods are damaged. My risk, my loss. I don't use Mr D anymore, many other options.
Moral of the story : Never tip unless good service has been received. Better to not use Mr D at all.

.........

No, its not Uber, its the restaurants themselves. They change the prices on the Uber menu, to cover Ubers cut, but its not Uber dictating that.
