My friend at work needs someone to coach him and train him, he stays too far from me to help him out myself.

He needs to learn proper technique and how to train smart to reach his goals.

Any idea? Say about 4 times per week.

Keen to find one myself.

However, i think you will need to specify in what area your friend is looking.

I cant find any where i live, and second, i suspect the price will differ e.g. Sandton will be more expensive then PE

I know virgin actives have trainers at the gyms, you know of any smaller more private gyms in pretoria? As those big gyms get ubelievably busy at times.

I had a personal trainer for a year. This was in 2008. Sessions were R250 for an hour. The more sessions you booked the cheaper it would become. I ended up paying about R2400 a month for 3 sessions a week.

This was at Virgin Active.

What does he want to train for , i.e. build/weight loss/general well-being?

I've mostly do a lot of cardio, and for the sake of having a "balanced" fitness plan I tried one of the Virgin Active gyms a while back (about 18 months) and made use of one of their trainers, and honestly, I will never use a VA trainer or gym again in my life!!!

I suggest your friends looks at a good eating plan (what you put in is what you get out), perhaps contact USN and have a chat to them (no I don't work for them, but I have had excellent results using their products), and I *think* they can actually assist with a workout plan suited to his needs.

The *main* purpose of a personal trainer is to show you how to do the exercises correctly. They also help to motivate you (if you have a friend that gyms with you, then you have this covered).

When I was still training, my PT made me do a lot of free weigh exercises. We used the ball a lot too. What I learned is that you can get an amazing workout with minimal equipment. So basically there is almost no point in joining a gym.

I can help

Hi srothman,

get your friend to email me at [email protected] and I will help him with a training program and sports nutriton used by more professional athletes. It is slightly more expensive than South Africa's local brands, but in my humble opinion, a lot better quality. I agree with what you said, what you put in is what you get out. Absolutely.

Yours in health,

Sportsman.

My brother is a part-time PT. He stays in JHB South but travels all over. PM if you want some more info :)

I hired a PT to help me lose my boep. R200/session for 12 sessions. I train with him once a week and use what I learn from those sessions on my own for the rest of the week.

So far I've dropped 4-5kg and toning up nicely. He still does not know that I have yet to go for a run

I will probably carry on using his services next year, working out on your own gets boring after a while.
