How much is my MacBook Pro worth now?

Maybe I misunderstood your point.
You are looking to sell your mbp for what it would cost for an equivalent machine today? New?
Because you can't look at it the same way.
4 yrs old is 4 yrs old.
It would be a downgrade.

Price downgrade?

Yes, I want to sell, and buy a new MBP. But, if I can only get R5k, I might as well give it to my brother or sister or use as webserver or something. Anything under R5k is simply not worth my time selling.
 
It has a 256GB SSD that alone is worth R2K. You should get 6-7K for the laptop

The Model Identifier should be enough rather than the serial number.

Not doubting anything - apologies if that's how I came across - I just like to throw in my serial number, and compare my specs to the one I might be considering... Looking at getting a MBP for the wife - but it's a hard sell, so want to be sure of everything when buying 2nd hand. If it's too out the way - no worries.
 
I have a 2011 MacBook Pro. Upgraded to 16GB RAM, 128GB OCZ Vertex 4 SSD with original 320GB HDD installed in a data doubler in Fusion mode. Original optical drive is installed in a OWC USB enclosure. I wonder what it's worth now? Would love to sell it some time in the future and put the money towards a retina display MacBook Pro or Air when it gets released.

You still have the dvd/superdrive?
 
FWIW - currently looking at some private sales on 2nd hand MBP mid 2012 13" i5 500GB 4GB ram (same as mine) for between R10k-R12k, depending on condition.... And a 2012 i7 750GB 8GB ram for about the same....

Not sure if that adds anything to this thread - but they are out there...
