How much you pay per Mbps for ADSL

Correct me if i am wrong? But all Fiber that is supplied still needs to work off from Telkom's infrastructure - Am I right in saying, that without Telkom exchanges - No Fiber?

You'd be wrong.

Gawd but I'm tired of hearing about fibre when it's not even an option for the majority of broadband users ...

One thing I have noticed in various forums on the topic of price between ADSL and Fibre is that the fair usage is never compared at the same time. Fibre is actually more expensive because the fair usage is much lower against ADSL products at the same line speeds (or even lower ADSL line speeds). With fibre you are obviously going to go for faster line speed and then use up your "fair usage" must faster.
Example: I have seen a package (more or less the same price for the ADSL and the Fibre) for ADSL 8MB line giving you 1000 GB fair usage vs a 10 MB Fibre line with a fair usage of 400 MB! And you are going to get through that 400 MB much faster on a fibre line.

Fixed the highlighted for you.

That why I went for Afrihost for fibre, they have different products and you can pay more to get a better (higher FUP?/less shaped) account at the same speed.

I'd rather pay R1299 for a very low shaping 10mbps account, than R799 for a 10mbps account with shaping or a 20mbps account with shaping.

Depends on your ISP. Some fibre ISPs have no FUP - just uncapped and unshaped. The way it should be...

You would have been better off going with Cool Ideas. Afrihost's pricing is a bit steep...

Prices seem very similar, they say they don't shape... but if they become too popular they will shape...
Prices similar to Afrihost's 1st option, but performance comparable to their 3rd option. So why not use them until they do? Who knows, they might surprise everyone and not do that...
