How noisy is your work environment?

I downloaded a decibel meter and tested the huge openplan office with roughly 150 people in it and the meter never dropped below 65dB and went up to 80dB at some points.

I'm curious to know what other environments are like.

I was using Sound Meter Lite for Android. It will be cool to get readings from the same tool if possible.

My office is nice and quiet - open plan office but only a few people working in it.

The rest of the building - not so much.

I ran some tests with sound meter lite a while back in a thread about about UPS fan noise during load shedding, highest reading I got in my office was 45dB which I regard as quiet.

In my office there's 2 women who can bring up the decibels to about 110 easy peasy

killer loud.

Plus aholes in the next building have SEVEN airconditioners facing our offices which switch on and off, on and off, on and off ...... well you get what I'm saying. When we open the windows in summer we gonna suffa.

I bought one of those background noise things for babies rooms which can be switched to rain, thunder, ocean, river but it needs an adaptor which hasn't been bought yet. Hopefully that'll help.

I am not an sound expert but is sound not measured in negative dB and thus a lower measurement is actually a louder noise? Or am I just making a noise now? (and thus lowering the dB's  )

My office window unfortunately opens to the road, and from 7am you get the Taxi's hooting non stop till 7pm........

Damn that sucks.

My office is right next to the smoke area and generators but I use my headphones most of the time if I get irritated.

My office quiet, everywhere else, industrial noisy.

Our office installed white noise generators. So now, when it's really quiet - or whenever you stop to think about it - you hear this noise, like an old CRT tv not tuned to a channel.

Drowns out some noise, but when you leave the building, you notice how tiring it can be.
