How often do you upgrade your smartphone?

So far every two years. Every single damn time I tell myself I'll keep using this phone to save the R400-500 per month, but then a month or two later the phone fcks out completely. EVERY DAMN TIME. :mad:
 
Bought an HTC M8 in 2014 and I'm still rolling with it. I swear that phones and / or batteries are just not designed to last longer than two years though.

The plan was to keep it until it died. But frustrations are building up with lag, battery issues (the biggest problem right now), and other minor issues that come up with it (like wifi being connected but nothing happening).

If it wasn't for me suspecting that there is some sort of hardware degradation (I am not sure - could just be a bad ROM), I'd send the phone to HTC for a battery replacement. Don't think it's worth it IMO.

For now things are tolerable. When it eventually kicks the bucket, I'll go for either a Nokia 6, P10 Lite, or the Xiaomi equivalent.
 
Batteries definitely only seem to last 18 months, and then perhaps limp on to 24. I figured the reason phones seem to get slower as time goes on is that apps on the app store steadily increase their resource consumption as newer and better phones come out. So the endless stream of app updates is what I blame on the phones getting slower over time.
 
Galaxy S4 is still working fine.
So when it breaks.... then it's time.
 
Only when mine breaks. I have a Z10, works well, good enough battery still and I can download android apps. I tried a Sony Xperia that was given to me and ended up buying twice as much data. I missed the HUB, so I repaired my BB, paid $9 for a screen from Ali and put the Sony in my drawer for emergency / backup.
 
When I can upgrade my postpaid contract I get the newest Samsung flagship phone available.
In 2015 I upgraded to the S6 just after it was released, and upgraded to the S8+ a few weeks ago.
 
Normal Samsung SIII here since launch year. When i start work then i'll upgrade to flagship :).

Nokia 1320 - 1 year, robbed
Nokia 1320 - 2 years, from insurance replacement
Lenovo Moto G4 play - 5 months

Lol can't see a formula there.
 
When it's cheaper to replace than to repair.
 
When I find a good enough deal, but it's generally 24 to 26 months or so, especially since I'm prepaid.
 
I used to so every 6 to 9 months, however at the end of 2015 I bought a Moto G3 and it is one of the best phones I ever had. My next upgrade should be on my contract in January.
 
Had the last phone 4 years, replaced it because CPU just wasn't fast enough to handle maps and music...

Will keep this one until I can't use something or performance no longer great...

Around every 6 months, tops. But sometimes more.

Like last year:

Started the year with the LG G4, upgraded to Sony Xperia Z5 (what a piece of crap), then sold it, used my old Galaxy S4 while I waited for the Galaxy S7edge, then upgrade to iPhone 7 Plus (sold it after 3 weeks, what a piece of schit apple is) and then got the LG V20

This year:

Started the year with the V20, upgraded to the S8+, and just put in my pre-order for the Note 8... might still get the Huawei Mate 10 when it comes out before year end.

Motorola V550 - 6 months, the screen ribbon packed up
Motorola V360 x 8 - all lasted about 3 months before the screen ribbon would pack up. Warranty claims. I eventually got so gatvol I threw it into the sea.
Nokia 6234 - 2 years and a bit
Xperia X10 Mini - 1.5 years
Blackberry 8520 - 1 year and a few months
LG Chatterbox - 6 months
HTC Desire S - 2 years
Motorola Moto G - 1 year
Nokia 1320 - 7 months
Redmi Note 2 - 1 year 3 months
Redmi Note 4 - 3 months
