How Shoprite beat Pick n Pay

On CapEx basis, Shoprite is investing more than PnP currently is. Compare PnP dividend payout ratio to that of Shoprite, PnP is too generous compared to Shoprite.

Having been a manager at a major Hypermarket in the 80's, i can clearly say there are two concerning factors with regard to P&P.
1.Branch managers are not up to the task.
2.Poor customer service.

I think it has been slightly mentioned previously somewhere else, but I have never seen a Brand hate their own franchises so much. PnP is a collection of own goals and should be a great study case for someone wanting their thesis for an MBA.

There is a Checkers Hyper above the PnP in Menlyn. I buy everything at the Checkers, then go to the PnP for 1 or 2 things Checkers might not stock or is not currently in stock, would be more expensive to shop at the PnP.

And implementation of expiring points is why I threw my SmartShopper away, easily save 10 to 30% immediately with Xtra Savings when doing the grocery run at Checkers.

Ackerman said to every fanchisee he met: "I run PnP like a bank" the franchisees thought that is great, little did they know they were his customers, not the consumers.

This has been the culture of PnP and I believe it is still enforced by the board.
