UPDATE ON CABLE REPAIR: WACS: Segment S1I trunk Repairs at Congo
Dear All,

WACS cable repairs at Congo(Between 3rd and 4th repeater after BU DRC towards BU Cameroon).

Update 28: Transit is complete and Cable Ship is at cable ground.
Repair operation is now ongoing, grapnel is being prepared for deployment.
More updates to follow…

Can someone explain what the cable repair ship is doing here?

Vaguely related but still.... the METISS cable that is going live this year apparently... 24terabits between SA/Madagascar/Mauritius.... just seems odd to spend that volume of money for a cable that doesn't connect into any major backbone (at least for us as a country)
 
WACS: Update - Segment S1I trunk Repairs at Congo

WACS cable repairs at Congo(Between 3rd and 4th repeater after BU DRC towards BU Cameroon).

Update 33 : Repairs in progress; Cable end BUCAM , tested and buoyed-off. And Grapnel deployment ongoing to perform the Holding Run#2.

Update 32 : : Holding Run#1 completed and tests towards R5004 completed. Cable being prepared to buoy off.

Update 31 : Holding Run#1 (HR#1) is completed.

Cable was successfully caught on the grapnel and is now being prepared under ISR procedure for testing and stray end recovery.

UPDATE ON CABLE REPAIR: WACS Segment 4 (between Seixal and Highbridge-TYCO cable) cable cut since 16 January 2020 14:59

Update 8:
The CS - IAX is still enduring inclement weather and have about 40 hours remaining to complete the current repair operation. They expect to complete repairs late Sunday or early Monday and to be on WACS Segment-4 repair grounds by Monday Feb. 3rd.2020.

Update 34 :
Holding Run#2 is completed, cable end (BUDRC side) was successfully recovered and is on the deck.

Operation is now ongoing preparing the cable under ISR for tests and recovery towards the fault.
