Permits for new cell towers, has been a problem since permits were first required, that isn't going to change especially since it is a problem caused primarily by tinfoil-mad-hatter communities and local government (municipalities) incompetence/corruption.

It is entirely the fault of the ruling cANCer party that the migration to Digital Terrestrial TV has so far failed to materialise years after the agreed deadline, DTT would have freed up a lot of spectrum, and would have allowed international best practices to be followed as far as spectrum allocation is concerned.

The failure to allocate spectrum is the more important problem and it is a problem created entirely by the ruling cANCer party.

It really means that the cell phone companies have not greased the right palms.....
 
The problems with site approvals is as old as the industry - a combination of NIMBY (not in my back yard) syndrome and pure maladministration

Municipalities are really dumb here, because if they move on their approval, they get better mobile quality and coverage for their residents, create temporary jobs, increase permanent income (land owners getting monthly site rental) and sell them electricity.

That palm greasing already takes the form of licence fees which goes from ICASA straight into the National Treasury coffers and disappears into things like "firepools".

The spectrum allocation delay is probably due to the ruling cANCer party holding back on allocating spectrum until the BBEEEEEEEEEEEE elite have found a way to rake in billions for doing nothing.

He claims to be "Dr. Trower", but I cannot seem to find where he did his postgrad studies. I also cannot seem to find publications in peer-reviewed journals. Also, in his formal statements, he refers to himself without the "Dr." title.

The sources for his assertions are also interesting, i.e.: The Biological Effects of Weak Electromagnetic Fields by Andrew Goldsworthy. Goldsworthy builds his whole research on work done by Bawin et al., 1975 from the University of California. Bawin et al. did their research on signals at 16 Hz. Goldworthy concurred, and went as far as to say that low frequencies are better (for releasing calcium ions bound to cell surfaces). That is totally outside the range of frequencies Trower is concerned about.

Sorry, but Trower seems to stretch his own qualifications a bit. Also, he adopts his sources to say what he wants to hear, and not what they actually said. For a high-school science teacher he's quite famous, but being famous doesn't necessarily make you right.
