How to avoid being ripped off when buying online

I have purchase items over the internet from foreign countries but never from private individuals. IMHO it is a bit more safe to purchase from a company.

Bought lots of software over the internet (downloads), and a couple of things off eBay, most came through without too much grief, also a couple of books/DVD off amazon.co.uk everything got here fine... most of the time.

D

I trust the big retailers to ship things - I've been ordering from catalogues even longer than I've been buying online (got to love those Victoria Secret catalogues :D). Its the auction sites that I'm wary about.

Have a fetish we should be wary of?

@ernstn, I have bought from Digital Planet without any problem. Did you have a bad experience?

Lots of people I know have had issues at digital planet. I have had pretty good service from there though.

I know it's probably not nice to laugh at other people's misery, but after he sent the 4th 'collector's sword' I burst out in laughter. Couldn't help it.

I personally have bought from places that I probably shouldn't have, but always from companies. Like sky.askash said...

Is Digital Planet that bad? Some of the deals they got were starting look very attractive for me,How about Take2?

I`ve bought 89 items from Take2 over the last 4 years. They don`t rip u off.
Service is generally good, ie they read their emails, and respond.

Only thing is that when u buy hardware which arrives damaged, you`re gonna wait a while to get it fixed. happened once to me.

Take2 - Brilliant e-tailers with phenomenal service. I'd happily recommend them and Sybaritic.co.za :) I'm full of praise for both.

I love e-commerce... I've only bought from eBay twice, but both times gotten what was bought. However, one item (a game) was stopped at SA customs for 30-odd days - that peeved me off somewhat, but I received it nonetheless :) After paying R80 at the post office.... :p

Take2 is brilliant.. never had any problems with them. Although they do seem to have become a little pricey lately. Strangly can get some stuff cheaper from Kalahari.net which I never thought would happen.

cdwow.co.uk is also very good, takes about a week on stuff but have to pay import duties at the post office.

This women must have been a blonde. A> She wasn't using paypal and B> She didn't log a dispute.

She deserves to have her money stolen for her stupidity :-/

I wouldn't go that far. She was just careless and trusting - something we're all rather susceptible to.
