Easiest method I found, touch a wall or earthed pillar before touching metal. Sometimes, you can even hear the discharge. And when you open the door at work, let your one hand hit the wall first whilst your other then slowly grabs the door handle a second later. Incognito FTW!

Every time I get up from my chair and push it in, I get a sap :( Everyone around me can hear it, it's that loud!!

If its in a car I always close the door via the glass.

If you're reaching for a door handle having walked across a carpet and you just *know* you're going to get zapped, take a key and touch that to the handle first - the discharge will spark from the key, not you, hence no pain.

I used to do this at first but I found the wall method to be better over time. No sparks at all.
