How to create a killer LTE set-up

So the big sticking point here is the price of data. If you had one of Telkoms packages that allow for a multisim you could technically qaudruple your speeds. The load balancer like the TP-LINK TL-R470T+ or TP-LINK TL-R480T+ allows for 4 WAN ports. The TL-ER5120 would allow for gigabit speeds on your LAN. Currently i have the TP-LINK TL-R480T+ with 3 WAN devices. Telkom LTE + ADSL + Afrihost LTE as a backup. I could join the Telkom LTE and Afrihost but here is the basic price per gigabyte that makes this a very expensive option:

Uncapped Telkom LTE (300GB+) 80Mb/s R2/Gb
Cellc 3g LTE 10/20Mb/s R10/GB
Afrihost LTE 20Mb/s R40/GB
Telkom LTE-A 150Mb/s R7.50GB
Telkom LTE 80MB/s R8 GB
Adsl 8mb/s R3.68 GB

What's with the Vodacom + Telkom obsession. What about the other 2 operators?

Which is Basically Vodacom + Telkom/MTN.. as Telkom falls back on MTN.

Might as well do Cell C/Vodacom + Telkom/MTN... Cell C is cheaper on Data.

It is when compared to Telkom Mobile R599 for 300GB soft-cap. Granted you can't get it at that price now. Current price is R799. But still dependant on tower and area. One of the good things about not living in a city :p.

R799 linky?

The load balancer is a TP-LINK TL-R470T+ router and is at Takelot for R1 122,00.

The 3G Routers is at Takealot for R1 925.00

How is that an advert for Takealot?

Interesting also wondered what the "Load Balancer" is which is the crucial piece of kit besides the External Antenna's

Fibre optic guys......patience is a virtue, all questions answered and unbelievable speeds, LTE =Great , Optic = Brilliant

!!

Do what is right. Not what is easy.

CHEAPER !

BTW -- that's 4G routers :)

The HUAWEI b315 LTE routers are cheaper at the Telkom direct shop R1,300.00

I have one sitting here doing nothing ATM -- data is STILL TOO Expensive !
Besides I live next to the LAST 4G tower in the country ( Hi-Point) that still uses MICROWAVE for backhaul !

I would still like to experiment with some of my Cisco gear to see what I could do with multiple devices ?

Patience? So what's the fibre coverage at the mo and how long down the line are we?

This is of course is the only problem- point in time, Only the affluent areas and businesses are being connected. I feel optimistic knowing that the more we make our voices heard the more the providers will speed up the roll out. I hope not too far down the line as That configuration of two SP's and equipment is expensive?

They're making enough money on ADSL and LTE to be bothered.
Where's the motivation?

Bottom line for this article is that internet provision in SA is still pretty terrible, and a lot of people are relying on a LTE setup to get decent speed since we cannot get fibre. And now you have to run two LTE connections to get a decent internet experience?

There is not enough capacity to roll out everywhere, in fact wireless tech is easy to roll out when compared. Eventually when they have Fibre'd the denser population areas they'll continue to lower density areas

But I'm pretty sure all the LTE towers must receive some sort of fibre link to give you anything close to the maximum of 90mbps?
