I moved to a new address with a fibre line already present. There is a white box on the wall and a white Huawei ONT.

I have a Vox "Fat Pipe" ADSL PPPoE account (yes, I know) configured on my WiFi router which is connected to the ONT with Ethernet cable.

Everything's working great, I just have no idea who my fibre provider is lol because the landlord has no idea and I can't contact the previous tenant to ask (whom I suspect just never cancelled the line that I'm now using) because the landlord is unwilling to provide contact details.

Cool Ideas wasn't able to check for me either.

There is no B- number visible anywhere, although I know the address falls within OpenServe's coverage area.

Any other way I can find this out? Does the fact that OpenServe operate in this area mean it HAS to be an OS line, or can different fibre providers service the same area?

Edit: Added pics in case it helps.

Some areas have three fibre providers..

Does not sound like vumatel, who typically use raycore devices..

@cavedog or @pinball wizard either of you know which fibre providers typically use Huawei ONT's..?

I'm still confused at an ADSL account working via a fibre ONT...

Heh, I originally got the Vox account when I still had 4 Mbps ADSL. Back then I paid R79 for 100 GB p/m, and it has unused data rollover from month to month (up to some insane max limit I think) which is the Best Thing Ever.

When I switched to fibre, I wanted to cancel the Vox account but would then loose all my precious accumulated data I had paid for, so I thought I'd just see if it doesn't maaaybe work with the fibre line...? and wouldn't you know! I seem to remember a thread discussing that, will see if I can find it.

So yeah, I never cancelled the Fat Pipe account and am now paying R100.26 for 250 GB p/m. I have 1.75 TB available on some mystery person's 10/10 (according to speedtest.net) fibre line.

Hope this isn't some loophole that'll now be fixed should the right (wrong?) person read this. :p

Nah nothing so duplicitous,Openserve's fibre offering is a glorified ADSL but upgraded tech and Fibre where it matters,so the PPPoE accounts work since it's basically one giant homogenous network as it is

It must be openserve seeing your vox account works. The real question is: who is paying for the line rental seeing that the line is still active?

Drop me a pm.

I will give you a test account that won't authenticate but I will be able to get the B number and will be able to tell you who the current ISP is of the B number.

@cavedog has provided me with the B-nr. It is a 10/10 line with OS, currently in the "holding pool" so I've applied with CISP (again) to do their thing. They weren't able to provide me with any of the info cavedog has, so failing that, I'll signup with Afrihost instead. I'd prefer CISP though purely because they have a line-only product and I have more than enough data left on the Vox account to not need any uncapped data for some time.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Hi,

I have a similar issue to this. Do you think the B number will be behind the ONT? The landlord is unhelpful and I need the B number to activate my Cool Ideas connection, thanks!
