How to get an Amex card?

Anyone know how I can get a American express card without going through Nedbank?
 
Nedbank have the rights to Amex so I doubt you will be able to get one without going through them.

The real question would be why do you want an American Express card?
 
One of my goals is to eventually get a black Amex, so will have to start somewhere.

Since one of the requirements seems to be spending $250,000 per your on your amex platinum or gold card good luck.
 
Amex is a waste of time.

Most places don't accept the card. This is why need bank will give u a VISA card in case the merchant says they won't take Amex.
 
rates on them are stupidly expensive and most of SA doesn't accept them.

If you have something vaguely resembling a respectable degree then std bank will give you one.

EDIT: I was mistaken. Std Bank will give you a Diners club, not Amex. They both suffer from the same problem though.

I have a Corporate AMEX card, it's pretty useless, it's not readily accepted.
You seem to want one as a status symbol, why not concentrate on building your real wealth instead of flashing a piece of plastic.

The same goes for Diners.
