How to get SMSes without installing the entire Vodafone Connect software?

Does anyone know if, or how, it is possible only to have the SMS part of the Vodafone Connect software, either the full or lite versions? I connect using the generic Windows Network Connections, avoiding having to load the Vodacom software -- but I would like the ability to send and receive SMSes from my data-card.

Alternatively is there any dedicated software which would do the job simply and with little memory overhead?

Yes, it will work with any modem as they all use Hayes-AT commands to send / receive SMS. I've got an E220 running on my wifes PC using SMSTOOLS under Linux for the last 3 years sending out daily SMS reminders to her clients without fail.
 
Thanks guys. However the problem with most of the freebie apps of the type mentioned so far is that they will only SEND SMSes -- I need something which, like the Vodafone software, is a complete SMS client, incoming AND outgoing (and yes, I do use the free 20-a-day Vodacom service, but it's only outgoing, and will only send to Vodacom numbers).

So my original question which launched this thread still stands!
