How to identify a pirated DVD

Eish... no wonder SAFACT is so useless... they are running two decades behind technology.
 
Or, you know, just look at the price?

If you aren't being seriously ripped off it's probably a pirated DVD.
 
The easiest way to tell is that legit DVD's are usually full of stupid adverts telling you how bad pirating is and are locked somehow to prevent your player from skipping ahead.

Lots of people will buy DVDs. People who don't have ADSL or large data caps. People who don't have a PC which can play H.264 or even MP4 files. People who want convenience. Just buy the disk and not disk around on torrent and other sites.

What if your player ignores UOPs?

For PC in the early days one had to run a second program to achieve this, such the Remote Selector, which forced PowerDVD and WinDVD to ignore these things :)

All I know is those ads really, really annoyed me, especially that "you wouldn't steal a car" one.. :mad: Thankfully I've not seen that one in a while now. ;)

Thankfully anime DVDs from companies except Funimation did not have unskippable ads.
 
Pretty sure anyone buying a pirate DVD, knows it's a pirate DVD. The exception might be DVDs bought at a second hand shop/cash converters.
 
I still have a big game collection stored away, old to new mediums. I’m a National Geographic collector, everything DVD/HD DVD/Blu-ray, which is too big to hog on my storage drives anyway.
 
Since this topic is trending onto the digital playground, how many hoarders are in this thread?

I have all those old VHS tapes - Tryline Tales, Best Currie Cup tries, old Bok rugby highlights, etc.

I did convert them to DVD but it's lekker having the originals!! :o
