How to identify a pirated DVD

Why don't they just print it properly! Personally; I'm amazed people are willing to pay to watch a movie in such low res.
 
I think most people on this Forum identify them by the words 'rip' being in the folder name.

I'm amazed people still buy DVD's. The kind of people who still buy DVD's probably don't care if they are fake or not.
 
Easy way to identify a fake DVD is if you bought it at the robots or flea market :)

But seriously even if you still do DVD thing its really not hard to distinguish the fake from the legit.

Except many yrs ago I bought Borat from Musica & took it home & opened it up & it looked "fake"; I was about to give Musica a piece of my mind when it hit me it was made to look fake as a tongue in cheek reference. Quality was an original.

Seriously it bothers me a lot that discs are still the medium of choice for content distribution.
Cost of flash drives have dropped substantially and you paying R900 for a damn game on new gen consoles. Surely they can give it to you on a flash.
I live a disk free life. Not a single movie, game, software or album on disk.

On a more technical level... fake DVDs are burnt while original DVDs are stamped. Most fake DVDs have dyed bottom layers.

One of the really easy ways to identify a cheap fake is to look at discoloration on the DVD (this true trie for most local fakes):

Why the hell do you care so much about it?
 
You know what surprises me some people will spend thousands on Full HD tv's with full Theater quality surround sound, then pop in a crap quality CAM Rip of a movie and somehow still rave at how the quality of their set up :wtf:
 
Scary report I read a couple years back... a firm of attorneys together with a forensic audit team and a division of the police (think it was the hawks)... did an investigating into counterfeit goods, they found a direct link to organised crime, so in essence the cash you use to buy a fake dvd or sunglasses etc. goes to funding organised crime... we would joke that you buy a dvd, which funds a gun for a criminal so he can come rob you and steal it...
