New to linux and i have Mint 17.1, trying to get an old windows game to run and
during the process it says new version of PlayonLinux 4.2.7 is available (i have 4.2.6)
I downloaded the new version and extracted to the desktop ............................. Now what?

LOL you can see how dumb I really am now

Any help or advice would be appreciated, but you will have to give me step by step instructions
until I get the hang of it

Regards

Snowy

It seems Mint 17.1 is based on Ubuntu 14.04:
http://linuxmint.com/rel_rebecca_cinnamon_whatsnew.php
Main components
Linux Mint 17.1 features Cinnamon 2.4, MDM 1.8, a Linux kernel 3.13 and an Ubuntu 14.04 package base.

Ubuntu 14.04 is Trusty Tahr, so go here:
https://www.playonlinux.com/en/download.html
click on Ubuntu and follow the instructions for Trusty:
Code:
wget -q "http://deb.playonlinux.com/public.gpg" -O- | sudo apt-key add -
sudo wget http://deb.playonlinux.com/playonlinux_trusty.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/playonlinux.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install playonlinux
