I came across this excellent post in the Fedora forums and thought I'd share it here : http://fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=230654

The guy, barry905, changed his BIND zone record and got his Windows XP client talking to his Directory Server without using pgina or any 3rd party software!

I am also trying this, have added the entries to my zone record, the Windows XP client reads it, but there is still somewhere something not right.

I'll keep searching..... www.google.com/linux

Those records mentioned are those Active Directory creates in a Windows DNS server so that Windows clients can find the domain controller when joining an Active Directory based network.

DNS is critical for Active Directory, and since 389 Server is offering something similar, I imagine it as critical for that. As far as I know, Active Directory can run with a BIND server, it just needs to be configured correctly, so I am sure 389 Server will work. Good luck and keep trying.
