hi guys, i have a problem. i have about 4 years of telecoms experience and a proffesional degree yet i always seem to be outclassed by individuals with loud mouths and no sense?how is this possible??are most people in the industry just so vulnerable to one loudmouth who can sell sand to the desert? i mean guys even get away with statements like "ospf is a static link". wtf does that even mean?wtf??:wtf:any harse arsed semi intelligent IT dude should have an idea its a routing protocol (i know it and im from GSM!)

so i work for one of the big 3 operators and this is the sad state of affairs here.bull will always win.i have 2 choices, develop into a loudmouth/get a degree in bull, or i can find a magical place where there is reason, intelligence.please pleeease tell me there are proffesional companies here in sa where people actually know what they are talking about!if not please provide the details where i can get a degree in bull :D

Well, my advice would be to check which forum you are posting in first to see if it is the correct one.
That might improve your reputation in the Telecomms field a little bit.

Go google Conversational Hypnosis by Igor Ledochowski. Worth getting your hands on ;)

theres just no winning :D

haha... no worries! As long as you keep trying. Don't give up!

But seriously, have you considered taking classes in speech, body language and assertiveness?
That might help give you confidence.

Perhaps you've yet to prove yourself over the last few years? I think the operative word you used was 'outclassed'...

lol. shame.
welcome to the real world, op.
eventually word gets around. telecoms isn't that big.
trusted reputations and relationships count more than bs in the long term, so focus on that rather than the fluff.
if you stick to your word and deliver, i guarantee you, you'll have return business.

pm one of the ca mods to get the thread moved.

It's like that everywhere, the bull****ters always win. In my studies they always emphasized the ability to sell your ideas. If you have great but say nothing no one will know about you. Unfortunately the bull****ters only heard the sell part & are finding it works, why work when you can bull**** your way up the ladder.

yup!but i am am def working on my bs skills.its however pointless if upper management are full of bs themselves.it def a losing battle

well, its how you sell yourself. Many customers fall for whatever they hear, big words and what not...

but it comes down to how you sell yourself, and maybe they company you work with, maybe you should leave.

no point leaving if the the same situation exists wherever i end up.however i notice that there is less bs in technical departments (of course u cant bs the techies).its higher up where the problem exists but sadly thats where the major decisions are made

And that's the sort of thing you'll learn in Conversational Hypnosis. It's not your traditional hypnosis where people go under a trance. It's about sending the right signal across to the person you're talking to. And that seems to be what you're looking for ;)

It depends on your industry i suppose.
Sales...then a BS talker is awesome.
Start getting into some technical IT positions where you have to liase with other technical IT ppl, and a moron who loves spouting buzz words is very quickly identified, mocked and given the crap jobs

It's not what you know, it's who you know. I quickly learned that being friends and making friends can push you ahead of people very quickly. It's ultimately about politics in life, and if you able to see/manipulate whats happening with people on a social level, you can easily start know more and more 'important people'.

I generally don't talk bullshyte, like I try to make sure what I say is 100% factual. However, I'm also likely to challenge people, but also help them out when they ask. I try talk to them like they people, and just talk about 'stuff'. Also means that say you good mates with the boss, you more likely to get the promotion (given you do the work) because of a friendly bias. You will see all your top CEO's, Actors, politicians are very charismatic people. Charisma is more what you should be looking at... Having the ability to walk up to someone and just start talking to them, and then getting them to have a very active conversation is a powerful tool in life. I'm still working on my charisma, but it's getting there :). You need not bullshyte, but you do need to have a way of just talking to people!

Human nature - when we don't understand what's being presented we are inclined to trust someone we like.

These guys you call loudmouths are more likable than you.

You can lament the unfairness of the world or learn the rules.
