Our modem broke last night...It just keeps rebooting/resetting itself. Doesn't search for a signal at all.....

Nowhere to go exchange it etc until Tuesday...Just drove all the way to Village Walk just to find them closed (big surprise...NOT)

Thank you Sentech for making a long weekend ESPECIALLY long...
 
It doesn't switch on for long enough to do that...just cycles through starting itself up repeatedly...but will try...have nothing to lose...

PS : Posting from hubby's work...have to go home now *cries*

Consider iburst's offer. He is an iburst employee.

MW is dead in the water. iBurst has some issues of their own but NOTHING like MW's. If I needed a wireless option I would certainly go for iBurst.

i was once a sentechian and moved to iBurst... yup so what if they have a cap... but there speeds are outstanding

That's awfully nice of you iburst, do you suppose you could send a technician around to my place - perhaps the technician that Sasan promised (in the ITWeb article) to send out to customers that were experiencing problems...?

( I have only been waiting since January for this fabled WBS iBurst technician...:rolleyes: )​

which means you reach your cap even faster, whats the point...
 
The point will only strike home when these dumb &^$%#' realise that
they will be on a shared 64K link every month they exceed their cap!

I'll stick with the 10 ton truck with a big fuel tank thank you!
They can keep the sports car with the 3 litre tank :)

I had the exact same problem, I found that resetting the unit at the back did not help much either. I took it to village walk and I was lucky to find that it was still under warranty else I would have to pay for the repairs.

They loaned me one of their units while mine is still being repaired.

true... do not disagree with you one bit. The way I use the net I am not interested in warez and stuff. Mainly for maintaining various sites around the world. But I could not bear utilising something that could only reach speeds of 4.7Kb/s when it came to big files like databases.

I prefer 80-90KB/s speeds all for R50.00 more... generally I am left with about 2GB left for whatever I want in the month. So Sentech would have been superb if they could have fiven me the service they were advertising but quiet obvioulsy based on this forum and other findings they cant.

Someone mentioned that Sentech is like a 10ton truck... well yeah it is... iBurst is like a sports car... nah... its more like the space shuttle... but is entirely up to what you want out of your connection. I am not interetsed in bandwidth but merely in speed.

And just to to fill you in it aint a shared 64K... its guarenteed per user.

So when times are good (before your cap) you're getting good speeds; and when times are bad (after the cap) u are getting Sentech speeds ?

Sounds like a good deal.

They only commit "up to 64kbit".
That 64K is not guaranteed. Go ask them yourself!

ell its what the sales rep said but we all know how that goes... will see next month when it launches... if so ah well... bandwidth not too much of a concern..
but one thing that sentech has going for it is the cap issue.. they just need to fix international problems.

Village Walk ST shop is closed on Saturdays, dont be naive as I was.

It would be best to try and go on a weekday. They might be open in the morning, to be safe get there between 9:30 and 11:00 (They might just be closed during lunchtime) And if youre lucky they might be open in the afternoons too. something like 14:00 to 15:30 or so..

Come to think about it. Phone them to ask if they will be open at whatever time you plan to be there. It might just happen that they close early since no one (not even noone) has been there the whole day, at 10:00.

Sentech has an image yeknow - it would be very bad if the shop did anything in favour of the customer - would be out of character.

Which one? Challenger? Or Columbia? Or are you referring to the 1970s technology in the shuttles?

Hehe, Challenger might be a problem, but in SA we have a cap... So we dont _actually_ get to orbit, we get a nice ride and then the fuel runs out, so theres no worries about burning up in re-entry.
