I have a Blackberry 9700 and have found an app that I really like but it uses a lot of bandwidth and unfortunately only works over Wifi and Direct TCP, not BIS.

So basically, every time the app is running, the 'internet' APN is used and it charges the normal data rate, whatever that is now.

So I was wondering if there was a way to buy a data bundle online (say 100MB or so) and have the app chow through the bundle instead of having a surprise on my account at the end of the month.

I'm on a BB Talk 75 if that matters.

Thanks for the help.

Hello Feo. There is no package like the BB Talk 75. Only the Talk 75. Normally I would not bother to correct this, but in this case it makes a big difference because on the Blackberry Talk packages, you are not able to add on a Data bundle as a VAS. I am not sure why...but that is how it is.

You can log in on www.vodacom.co.za and do the purchase there, or you can PM me your details (including ID number and postal address for where you receive your Vodacom bill) and I can add on the bundle for you direcly on the system.

Hi ocleroux

I'm not sure I follow. You first say its not possible to add a data bundle as a VAS on my particular contract and then in the next paragraph say I can add it from the website or PM you?

Am I dof or am I missing something here?

Sorry feo....maybe I expanded to much on the subject....thought it might provide useful info to others.

You mention you are on a BB Talk 75. There is no such package. Only Talk 75. The Blackberry Talk packages is the BB Talk 100, 240 and 500 but no 75. The reason why I brought this up is that on the Blackberry Talk packages, you are unable to add a data bundle as a bolt on. I tried this on my Blackberry Talk 100 and the system does not allow for this.

But seeing that you are on a straight Talk 75, this should not present a problem. :-)

Sorry about the confusion, I thought it might be useful info should anyone else want to add a data bundle to their Blackberry Talk package and then struggle :-)

Great, I'm clear now! :)

I tried earlier to add a bundle from the Vodacom site and got nowhere. I'll try again now and if I don't come right will PM you. I take it you're a rep on the forums here. I'm browsing on my phone so I can't see your forum title.

Not a official one no...I am still waiting for my moderator badge from Morkels (hint hint) lol

But I work for a Vodacom dealer so I can assist and have done so many times. If you feel uneasy, you are more than welcome to wait for others to confirm for you. I wont be offended. :-)

Hope you come right.

OK, I go to the website and click "Purchase data bundles" and get taken to a page that has nothing to do with data bundles?

Do you maybe wanna give me a quick walkthrough of how to purchase it over the website?

PS. The site sucks but I know there's a thread for that already. :D

mmmmm ok lets see. You log in obviously. Then as follows:

1. Under the "My Vodacom" tab click on "My services"
2. You will see on the left hand side a bar with different menu items on it. Click on "Broadband" (yes we are allowed to use that term again) :-)
3. Select the bundle you want. Be carefull....you get montly ones, you get once off ones, you get standard ones and you get advanced ones. Make sure you select the one you want.

Gimme a second, you guys new site is pretty slow.

I only get these options under Broadband:

MMS Bundle 25 OnceOff
Share more and say more with an MMS Bundle 25 OnceOff

MMS Bundle 50 OnceOff
Share more and say more with an MMS Bundle 50 OnceOff .

MMS Bundle 100 OnceOff
Share more and say more with an MMS Bundle 100 OnceOff

Advanced My Gig 2.5 OnceOff
With Vodacom the Internet is maklik!

Now you can speak to up to 6 people on one call.

And now?

That is the standard screen it opens on. I had to click broadband for a second time...it then goes to the correct screen. I think the flashy player is not lekker.

Cool, that worked.

Next question, what's the difference between the normal ones and Advanced bundles?

Also, is there rollover? So if I buy 50MB this month, any unused will roll over to the next month, right?

Standard - Monthly subs is a bit lower, but out of bundle rate is R2.00 per meg used over and above your bundle
Advanced - Montly subs is a bit higher, but should you go over your bundle you get charged the same as you would have been if you were still in bundle.

Correct about the roll over. Will roll over to the last calender day of the next month.

The website says otherwise.

Every single package has the same price for both the normal one and it's "Advanced" equivalent...why?

What bundle are you interested in? I will then log into our system and get the correct pricing for you and post it here.

Thanks very much, will resurrect this thread again over the weekend.
Both the Standard and Advanced bundles are available in once-off and month-to-month options.

If you go for the month-to-month, you automatically get a new bundle on the 1st of the month. You only get to carry-over unused data every second month.

If you go for once-off, your bundle will last up until the end of the next calendar month (i.e. up to 60 days), so best to wait until the 1st to buy one of these. Due to some strange quirk in the Vodacom system, on contract you can only purchase Advanced once-off bundles if you already have an Advanced month-to-month bundle.

So, if you want a hassle-free, no worries, data bundle go for an Advanced month-to-month bundle, but if you'd like to get better value by spreading your bundle over two months and are prepared to monitor your usage and purchase bundles as required, go for the Standard once-off bundles.
