Can anyone help with advice for our housing complex about how to record security video?

We have a simple security camera set up at the entrance gate, but because it refuses to record to the PC at anything below its maximum resolution, the 500 GB HDD can only take 10 hours of video, which is inadequate. Ideally we would also like recording only to be triggered by movement.

Is there perhaps a quick and dirty (software?) solution for this we could implement without having to call in an expensive expert? Thanks!!

Buy one of those cheap USB DVRs ( not to cheap ) if it is for just one camera they work ok and with 500 GB HDD will last more than 6 months before it starts to write over the old recording

Tks for the replies. Unfortunately the control PC has to run Windows, so Zoneminder is out, as is buying a new camera (not in the scheme's budget as this one was just bought -- don't know the name or model because it's not easily accessible and was installed independently). Will have a good look at ispyconnect.
