I've got a polo playa with a broken aerial - I need to replace the entire thing. How does it screw into the roof - so I need to remove the nut from inside the car to get it loose? That means I have to remove the carpet stuff on the roof as well? Or can it be removed from outside the car?

If it's the same as the Toyota's, there should be a screw either on the inside of the roof (behind the upholstery inside the roof) or a screw attachment on the top. Maybe give your service department a ring to be sure.

It's got a nut under the roof, you can't remove it from the outside, you have to remove the interior covers. Also if your car CAME with the aerial then you MIGHT need to get one from VW OR cut your existing connector because the cheap R50 aerials from sound stores have a different connector. Original aerials can be rip-off, for example GM charges close to R1000 for a original Corsa aerial, it's got a booster but still, those go for R100 online.

Thanks - I'll have a closer inspection tonight.

The end (the bit that screws on) is gone/perished/fallen off, and the rubber seal at the bottom (between the roof and aerial is missing.

Ok Ill suggest something, and will probably get flamed for it.
All the aerials fit eachother, so "take" someone elses, test your radio if its working, if it is then you know all you need is the screw on thing... put the "test" aerial back.

Most spare shops sell the screw on aerial thingy, someone must have stolen yours, happens alot in parking lots.

Don't know why people steel it, you can get aerials for R20 if you buy from the right place.

Like JK8 said, if it works with the screw on thingy just buy a cheap aerial, they come with the rubber that goes at the bottom also, best replace it because you'll get some water leaking into your car without it.

Think I might take it in - I've got a replacement antenna - the whole thing - screw in antenna and the other hald that bolts to the roof. I've screwed in the antenna and it fits. But now the rubber is still missing. I've got one from the replacement but I can't push it in without removing the whole thing (which I can't get off) :(

Greg, just one thing, take pictures of the interior before taking your car in, these people can cause quite a bit of damage taking your interior apart and they sometimes strip the nuts, break some of the plastic parts on the inside, etc. which causes the panels to rattle. I've seen it so many times before when I help friends install sound in their cars, after they just had a radio installed in their cars.

So take it to someone proper!

Take a look at my sig and notice that photos aren't a bad idea...

Yeah I read your story here on the forum, honestly I have to say I'll never buy a Peugeot based on what you wrote. GM isn't the best on earth but they scratched on of my cars panels and after I complained they replaced it with a new one no questions asked so at least they aren't as arrogant as that lot you had to deal with!
