I need help from the technical minds please.
I would like to know if it is possible to set up my router to automatically turn off at a certain time. I feel like a zombie. My son is up all hours of the night playing xbox, and keeps us all awake. I am a early sleeper, go to bed around 10, and then get woken up during the night with his noisy Xbox sound effects. Told him his cut off is 1 am, but he never keeps to this.

I get up ear;y in the morning , feel like a zombie for the rest of the day, because mister kept me up...he sleeps until 2 pm...and get up feeling fresh. Little bugger
I don’t want to set the alarm every day, to have to get up at 1 to go and turn the modem off. He uses wired connection for his xbox, and the WiFi, for his other devices.
We have a ZyXel modem (router) don’t know what the difference is.

I’m guessing he is over 18? If he isn’t, try see if you can link his Microsoft Account to yours. Then you can set the times of the day he is allowed to play Xbox.

Why can't he use headphones?

Nope...he is at the terrible teenagers stage..14

Take it away from him.

EDIT: otherwise block the MAC address of the xBox during certain times.

Question is where is the router located? Does your son have easy access to it? If not you can get one of those wall socket timers and set the time on it to switch off/on at certain times.

Other option is depending on your router. You can add the MAC address and restrict times vie the MAC address. In my case the router has an option called Parental Control which you define times.

Thank you for the advice. I have linked his account to mine, and have set up the times he is allowed to play using his account. He does have access to some of his friends accounts, so I am hoping he does not log in using their xbox details.
Will still try and setup the router, so that it blocked all usage between 1am and 7 am.

Little **** turns into a Vampire when it is school holidays. Wakes up as the sun sets and goes to sleep just before the sun rises. And then I have to suffer during the day. I make a point of being very noisy when I clean the house....so he gets a idea what it feels like when your sleep is disturbed....hahaha

On most routers you can set a schedule to stop traffic at certain times.

Take away the console. How hard can it be, really, he's your son living under your roof, not a paying tenant in a hotel. While you're at it, tell him it's lights out at 21:00 and take his phone and PC/laptop/tablet as well until you wake up. That little sleep is not good for a kid and will affect his schooling.

This isn't a technology problem, it's a parenting problem. Your child lacks manners, empathy and respect for your rules.

Make & model of your router?

It is a ZyXel
Model VMG1312-B10A

On my way to buy a plug that works on a timer. I need to block all access to the internet between 1am and 6 am.
If I only block his xbox, he will still sit and watch YouTube until the sun comes up.

You know he can just unplug the router from the timer?

As suggested - schedule the required mac addresses.

Give him something else to do that will occupy his time. Kids don't rule the roost.
