How to study without matric :)

Thanks for providing constructive input was worried the trolls would have run away with it.
I have a lot of respect for people who didn't graduate high school and then do the effort to finish Matric or whatever. Most people will expect the world to just give them a job and that it's owed to them.

Hard work will get you somewhere, sloth won't.

I commend you Sir.

You need matric to study. If you didnt you wouldnt be allowed to apply for further study and BSC rules are extremely high ie Maths and Science.

Secondly most companies wouldnt hire you without matric. If you couldnt even pass school, whats ure chances of being clever enough to work for them.
And one day as things get stricter you will loose your job for this reason alone too.

At least youre not in China. You get one exam and you have to do well. If you dont, they dont offer you the chance ever again to improve. Its pretty evil.

It's pretty rare for forumites attacking others for wanting to study further. I think the majority understand the value of education.
Im glad about that, was a little concerned at first when I saw the post. But the response is most helpful and I have loads of respect for him trying to sort it out now later in life as well!

This. This is the problem with Society.
Not everyone who doesn't have a Matric is dom (Not aimed at you @Corelli, just a general statement and what I have experienced through life ). I am far from stupid, I just made the wrong choices and hung with the wrong crowd, and rebelled against everything "normal" Come on, what teenager doesn't? I regret this today, bigtime. I may have gone overboard by not completing my schooling though...
People are quick to judge without knowing a person's reasons for not finishing school, granted a good few couldn't cut it intellectually or like me, discipline wise, but a lot of people have absolutely valid reasons and unfortunately not having that piece of paper will haunt you for the rest of your life, believe me i am in that boat at the moment.
I was lucky, extremely lucky. I spent 7 years in retail behind a counter, being treated like an imbecile (yes people do that, because you're behind a counter serving the public you're automatically labelled as uneducated), I applied for a job in 2008 (I always wanted to work in IT, never had my own transport or Matric), I was lucky, extremely lucky. I got given a 1 in a million chance, was employed at a corporate without my Matric and continued to prove myself in various roles for the next 15 years, funny enough not having that Matric made me automatically try harder than everyone else. It was like I had something to prove.

Unfortunately though, alot has changed since then and not having that paper is biting me in the arse. There is a saying about being a big fish in a little pond, well the tables have turned, now a little fish in a big pond and I'm finding it increasingly difficult to convince employers to hire me because of that silly piece of paper missing from my resume. Changing jobs was a dead end for me unless it was internally, laterally, no increases etc..
People are not willing to acknowledge a candidate without certain degrees, diplomas and of course Matric. it's hectic now, people will even tell you outright, even if we wanted to hire you without it, we would get in trouble with auditors etc etc...as everything gets scrutinized now because of the high unemployment rates in SA.

I have just registered through a distance learning college, and if all goes well and I continue to put in the hard work I do with most things, I can hopefully get that grey cloud to disappear, and not have to constantly feel like an underachiever, or better yet - be judged by others before knowing my story (alot transpired BEFORE the teen rebellion). Did I mention I am now 43, will probably only get it at 45 but still want to prove to myself I can do this.
