Hey guys

I bought a Nuvi 710 a few months ago and was wondering how to update the maps on it?

I'm a Garmin n00b so any help is welcome.

No idea but surely there is a program that you install on your pc that came with the gps that updates it? I knw you pay for updates though

I didn't get any CD with my GPS, just the card that slots into the GPS with the maps on it.

I need details here on how to get it updated and where to get the updates from.

WOW, that site is confusing.

All I wanna do is update the maps on my Nuvi, can anyone just link me to where I can do that? :o

Seems to be the 2007 series one. The easiest thing to do might be to go to a GPS store and buy the GARMAP Africa Series 2008 (March Edition) disc, like I did. Haven't used it, so can't comment on whether it'll solve your problem or not :o

Which stores sell them?

If I'm not mistaken, there's a place called Cape Union Mart or something that deals with Garmin stuff, will they have it?

Also, why is it so hard to find info on how to get the maps updated, I mean I shouldn't have to spend an hour just looking for info on how to update. :(

I bought mine at Makro, though Cape Union Mart might stock it as well.

I know, it's a lot of trouble to go through :(

You can also buy the DVD at Game and HiFi Corporation. When you first buy your Nuvi it will be what is called "Plug&Play" mode. This means your map and licensing information resides on the SD memory card of the Nuvi. There is a whole procedure to follow to change your Nuvi from Plug&Play to Mapsource. You will have to change from Plug&Play to Mapsource in order to upgrade your mapset on your GPS. Once you opbtained the Garmap Africa Series 2008, the "wizard" on the disk will help you through the proccess. You will first have to register your unit on Garmap's website over here: http://www.garmap.co.za/register_email_SD.asp The relevant information to convert is over here: http://www.garmap.co.za/Forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1035&PN=1 At first it sounds very intimidating, but it is quite easy to do. If you purchased your Nuvi after 1 January 2008, you qualify for a free upgrade licence. If it was before this date, you will have to pay something like R250 for the licence upgrade.

i have the cd at home for over 2months, got it free from trappers trading but have never got around to use it...

...the above will surely will help (although not really happy about paying the 250)

Bump

I bought the DVD, updated the maps and firmware on my 710 and everything seems fine except for one little thing, the GPS takes a lot longer to find the satellites when it's switched on. Anyone else have this problem after updating?
