Hey guys

I would like to know how to use a proxy..
Do I have to use a South African one? And what type should I use?
I tried one in Internet Explorer but then my internet stopped working:confused:
Maybe I did it wrong.

Any help will be appreciated

Tia

I'm not too sure on that, the admins don't just let anyone onto their proxy servers.

What do you want to use a proxy for? If you have the proxy details, it's simply a matter of putting those details into the applications you want to go through the proxy. Bear in mind that if you want to use your ISP's proxy, that's fine, but you won't be able to use another ISP's proxy. This is because ISPs limit who can and can't use their proxy.

There's millions of proxys out there you can use.
USA, UK, CHINA, ITALY etc etc all have lots of public free proxies.
Basically you just enter their details into your web browers and it should work.
Some proxies need authentication to use, some proxys won't let users from a foreign network on them, there are practically no public free proxies in SA cause they get raped by everyone looking for intl bandwidth. Its generally a good idea to start off with the reason for using a proxy first and then we can see what is a good solution for you.

ok so basically I got banned off a site and i want to get back on..
From what I can gather they ban you off your IP right?
So if I use a proxy I should be able to access the site again

yes, they would most likely ban your specific ip unless you have a user account there, in which case they probably banned the account.

If you're on a dialup or standard adsl account (an account which doesn't come with a static ip), you can try redialing the pppoe connections or disconnecting/connecting your router until you're assigned a different ip address. (hint: use www.whatismyip.com to check your public ip).

You could also get around this with a public proxy server which allows anonymous browsing. If the server passes on a X-Forwarded-For header, the site will still identify you as banned since the header will contain the originating ip address which will be your banned ip.

everytime I type in the Address and Port of a proxy from proxy4free or any other site into my connection in Internet Explorer it doesn't let me connect to any sites. I get some 500 HTTP error...
Any ideas to why this is happening? My pc runs off a PPPoE connection..

cause 90% of them don't work at all or very well, just keep trying
