How to use a Vodafone modem for 8ta?

I'm struggling to set a friend up with 8ta data using a Vodafone Huawei K3565 dongle.

Without the Vodafone software installed the laptop will not 'see' the modem, and I cannot in any case install the Vodafone software without a Vodacom SIM. If I did, would it then in any case be usable with an 8ta SIM? Can someone point me to the easiest way of doing this please?
 
Thanx for that ginggs, will give it a try. In this case your excellent MDMA wouldn't work because I need to get the laptop to recognise the modem first, which isn't happening. Installing the generic software first might help.
 
I know the networks are not allowed to lock the hardware but I've found problems with my Vodacom modems and 8ta on both Linux and Windows. Best advice is to get an 8ta modem.

Hi Terencek,

I am using an 8ta 10GB Sim card in my Vodacom K3565 modem. What i had to do was:

- Install the Vodacom autorun that comes up when you put the modem in. (This installs the modem drivers onto the pc)
- download the 8ta dashboard/software here: http://8ta-connect.software.informer.com/download/
- Install the 8ta software
- Open the 8ta software and give it time to pick up your device and you should be good to go
 
The simplest way is to to keep Vodafone software installed, go to the options and tick two options:
- do not load on system startup, and
- unload from system tray when exit
Now exit software, but drivers are installed and you can use any dashboard you like. From Vodafone dashboard you won't be able to dial other network.

If you uninstall software, it will probably remove drivers. You can install drivers-only package from the WEB, this is the other option.
