easiest way to transfer entire HTC TOUCH Diamond phonebook/contacts to a nokia phone.

no option to select all contacts AFAIK. one by one takes too long.

nice one.
first part done fairly easily. will see what happens when new phone comes in 2 weeks time.

I switch phones quite a lot and the one thing that I sorted out years ago is how to keep contacts synced across any kind of phone.

Many phone manufacturers will not give good tools to transfer contacts between phones, not even between phones in the same family. Nokia's tool is a good example.

BUT.....all of them will make sure the handset can sync to Outlook. So I've got one instance of Outlook that is not used for anything but syncing phones. And every phone I get is set up to sync with this Outlook.

This works extremely well, I can change contact details on whatever phone I'm using and the next time I plug it into the PC, Outlook is updated.

When I get a new phone or switch phones, voilà; Plug it in and it's up to date.

Just looking at my desk now, there are BlackBerries, Nokias, some HTC phones and the obligatory iPhone lying around.

And they all have the exact same set of contacts on them.

Yea I also use outlook to sync/backup contacts. You could also save all the contacts to sim and then save them back to phone memory on the new phone.

thanks for all the tips. the outlook one was my first choice but . i detest outlook so i will only grudgingly install it as a last resort.
the sim copy is usually how i would do it but the phone book is huge and the sim cannot handle all the numbers at 1 go.
the web option is being tried atm. so i will see how that goes.:)

Yup, on my system Outlook is demoted to 'syncher of all things contact' ;) It does not do any mail, calender, etc.

But it really seems to be the best way to manage your contacts across multiple mobiles. It also gives you a nice place to edit all your contacts directly on your PC. And to back it up.

The SIM method does not allow to keep all contact details, is limited in the number of contacts and requires manual intervention.

Theres a few ways, Nokia to Nokia Symbian is easy just use the transfer app in the phone, you can transfer everything from calender entries, contacts, media etc

Sony to Sony is also very good, back up all your contacts on the memory card, restore on new SE, so far I found this to be the fastest way to transfer contacts and info on any phone.

HTC - I synch with Outlook, I dont usualy plug the phone in, just use active synch, server addy, username and password and voila all your contacts download.

Most phones today use active synch or mail exchange.

Theres also the Vodacom "back it up" service, Ive never used it before, but worth a try if you cant manage to transfer your data.
