How will SA keep the lights on?

Where should SA focus their efforts?

So there's a thing here now, where you keep all your food waste separate from the rest of your recycling.
They collect it once a week, it goes to some fancy digester plant where it gets magicked into methane and liquid fertiliser. The fertiliser is obviously sold to farmers and the methane is used for power generation into the national grid...

I wonder what rate they pay themselves per kWh?

I think it's very complexicated. There's complete abstraction between energy providers and consumers, so you can pretty much choose whichever provider you want.
Electricity here is a little more expensive in ZA (around R4/kwh) but I think a lot less is used - so much gas in use for heating and cooking, and it's CHEAP! Under 3p per kwh...

Glad there were 2 options, so Other can be used for many things. Obviously, the ANC government has to alter so radically that the only realistic thing is for it to go. But for reliability and safety, a combination is the best option, but in our real world, setting in a good stock of candles; gas for cooking and water heating and reduce as far as possible electricity use so affordable solar is a reality.

Hmmm, get rid of the wasteful lot at Eskom, privatise and invest in proper renewable energy.

As long as government has their grubby little hands in Eskom, the situation will never get better.

Other.....

Why do individuals pay taxes......To have water/Sewage and electricity, transport and health services at least.

Do we get reliable electricity(99.5% up)=No
Is it due to natural accidental causes=Mostly No.
Is it due to Corruption, Mismanagement, Lack of Maintanance=Yes.
Do we as individuals benifit from big drawers of electricity=Probably not, we suffer.

So identify the big drawers of electricity, and see everybody is super hyped about renewables, let these super rich mining and other companies quickly jump to renewables to take the load off this broken system, so that ESKOM can do the repairs and poor engeneering causes rectified, so we the citizens, individuals, taxpayers still has power all the time, this seems fair to me.
Let these rich giants prove the renewables quickly within next 5 years to us, so we dont have to waist our money on that too.

City of Cape Town now want to charge a levy if you have a PV system in your house, whether or not it is grid-tied

I thought this would come to pass when they forced owners with PV systems to obtain a COC and register it back in 2016

Stop voting DA then, rather FF+. When your DA councilor looses his job and asks why, refer him to this post.

Let FF+ know that if they go the same route then let them know they will lose your vote to the secession party.

Its not about wanting to - they do.

But this is something worth pondering with an alert mind.

DA needs to uphold their social mandate. DA cant be trusted. They will make you pay for harvesting energy from the sun. This is what socialist dictators do.

The DA is so super evil, always pretending to "work for you", but actually just wants to take more money. They are actively turning the middle class to join the poor.

You could almost say the whole global warming scam was put forward to scare people into accepting nuclear power. It was never popular before because people were scared of it..... so you scare them with global warming instead and convince them that it's actually safer because emissions=bad as if the only safety concern anyone should ever have is emissions.

Obvious bait and switch really.

Living in SA with eskom falling apart..... can coal emisions REALLY be THAT much more dangerous than 5-10 more nuclear plants under ANC administration? And then there is ignoring genuine accidents or cyber attacks..... what is more dangerous a coal plant or nuclear plant exploding? Did fukisima which is STILL a problem teach no one anything?
