The latest generation of nuclear power plants as envisaged by Bill Gates are not Trillion Rand units taking years to complete, but are modest devices and can be delivered close to "ready to go"

Those are Modular reactors which have been in development for years, SA was even developing one that fizzled out in about 2010. It was the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor.

Those are two different questions.

Q: Where should SA focus their efforts?
A: To get the damn ANC out of there.

Q: How will SA keep the lights on?
A: They won't. Not at this pace.
Good points in both questions. It is hard to be positive based on the death spiral we see when it comes to maintaining and/or creating the new infrastructure needed to maintain or grow the economy.

If we were were talking about people with more brains to do the focusing, maybe we would have an answer. So I can only think of fixing the root cause before we consistently keep the lights on in SA & that's get rid of the ANC , they need to be out of power first.

Could we even afford full on newclear !!! ?

I'd take bets on how long it takes before someone tries to steal the reactor rods ....

Moral of the story, get use to loadshedding for the rest of our lives ... For EVAAAA !

Got to ask... who can replace the anc properly? Please would someone start a half-reasonable party.

Time's not really on their side is it now, how long will any of these options take to roll out? 2, 3 years? :cautious:

a combination would seem most appropriate, however at the current rate, it seems we're heading for a dark future faster than a future of varied generation capabilities
