How would I use 8ta 3G on our LAN?

Hi,

We currently have a 384K ADSL line connecting via an ADSL router which also serves as our LAN switch. We are using 2 PC's via ethernet with 2 (potentially 3) Wifi connections. I'd love to take advantage of 8ta's I5 offer, but haven't figured out how all our PC's would be able to connect.

Any advice appreciated!

That would work. Use the 3G modem as your main connection and then when that fails or runs out it automatically switches over to your adsl connection.

The router provides four Internet access modes for you to choose:

3G Preferred - Use 3G as the primary access, WAN as a backup.
3G Only - Only use 3G as the access to the Internet.
WAN Preferred - Use WAN as the primary access, 3G as a backup.
WAN Only - Only use WAN as the access to the Internet.

No need for any new hardware. If you are using the 3G dongle on a PC in your LAN you can share the internet connection with everyone else on your LAN. Thats what I do with my Cell C speedstick.

Thanks, although that would require leaving a PC on 24/7 basically, to provide the connection. If I can plug the 3G device into a router, it be far preferable

I did exactly what you're asking about by doing this...

1) Got myself a Planet WNRT-625G Wireless Router from DC3 for R585.
2) Bought a Huawei/Vodafone K3770 on promo at Vodacom for R399. (However, I had some trouble getting the 3G card to work. if you're thinking about purchasing the abovementioned router I suggest checking this compatibility list of 3G cards first.)
3) Finally, purchased the 8.ta 2GB+1GB prepaid data package for R149.

It works like a $2 hooker on a naval base! See my Speedtest.net results attached...
